Your problem is with the US patent office NOT microsoft, grow up. If you have a problem with MS legally patenting something, you need to go back to the sandbox and let the big kids live in REALITY. You don’t see patents for those things you mentioned because those are ridiculous examples you chose to make you sound right.
If you don’t understand how these kinds of things work it’s ok, but in that case it isn’t very smart to go on a long winded rant about it. Heres a fun fact, the first “patent” given out in the US was a new way to make salt in 1641. By your logic there would be no other ways to make salt in the united states today.
Do you think that when Sony decided they were going to allow custom soundtracks they thought that almost no devs would use it? No, I’m betting they were a little more optimistic. I don’t know what else you want sony to do…blatantly infringe on the patent costing them millions for absolutely nothing?

Also don’t forget how the ps2 could only play cd’s but the xbox could have music saved on, and played during certain games. This isn’t something they stole from anyone, they were doing this all last gen, really there is no problem with the patent.

@ST-Anger – I completely agree with this rant. You can’t patent the ability to have universal music in a piece of hardware, and have it apply to all hardware that exists. Total Bullshit. Thats like patenting the white color in bread, so no one can make white colored bread anymore. All you can patent is a recipe, or in this case, code. XBox uses different code. Not having universal music is purely a Sony internal issue, with them not coding it into the firmware.

On another note… um cool! I guess this would be cooler if there were any mini’s I cared to own. Also, I have had recent issues with my blue tooth headset where the mic doesn’t work, but I can still hear people… I thought it was the headset itself, but maybe its actually the firmware? Hope this fixes it.

How the fuck can M$ own the patent for in game music? Thats the biggest load of bullshit i’ve ever heard! Show me some solid proof that this is the case and i’ll believe it, until then, i think it’s the most absurd thing i’ve ever heard! U cant own the idea for in game music.

If you could own things like this, then dont M$ and Sony owe BILLIONS of dollars to the guy who first dreamed up computer/console gaming? Do car manufacturers pay royalties to the first company to put a stereo in their car, because all the new models and makes have them? Do the descendants of the Wright brothers get a payment everytime an aeroplane is designed with aerofoil shaped wings?

Patent on in-game music indeed! What a load of old tosh!

Looking forward to the controller fix. Mine still get dropped and need to be synced again….real pain in the ass Sony.

I am looking forward to the PS3->PS3 file transfer. I own a slim and a fat and I hate always using a thumbdrive to transfer saves around. Don’t know how this will go from account to account smoothly since when one PS3 logs in with your ID the other is forced off.

Go to dollar stores or online and buy the following.

3.5 MM audio jack to composite Red and Yellow cable,

2 stereo to mono composite cables

A cheap dock that will work for your needs. (optional)

and then hook it up.

You take the 3.5mm and hook it to your MP3 player, take the end of that cable and hook it into one side of each of the stereo 2 mono composite cables, hook up the PS3 to the other side, and plug the composite to stereo into the PS3. Now go into a game, put the music all the way down, and press play on your MP3 player.

We do have custom soundtracks enabled. Companies like people to listen to the music that they themselves spent money and time either creating or liscensing. I play a lot of RPGs so I listen to a lot of podcasts and when I’m playing a game I”m sitting right next to my computer…

If you don’t like my alternative then I guess you could always just learn an appreciation for musical scores and some of the liscensed music… Or you could just use the rage you apparently feel for having to listen to music you don’t like in order to work harder so that you no longer have to listen to it.

If your computer is always on anyway you have a better way to get to your music and don’t need to complain. If your computer is on BECAUSE you’re listening to music, then you’re not using your mp3 player correctly. You have this problem solved yourself but all you can do is sit there and whine? You aren’t in diapers anymore, come on, show us you can do something for yourself here…

Maybe if you asked for something other than something that’s been asked every day the past year, and has already been allowed to work? Try asking how hard it would be to make custom playlists mandatory for all games, or if there was a tool they could put in the dev kit that could help with this.

yes I do have an MP3 player and my computer is always on. But I would prefer to have universal in-game music so I don’t have to keep my computer on all the time when I want t listen to music and playing games.
