Apparently Square Enix have revealed that the PS3 version of the RPG will still be untouched with an uncompressed FFXIII. The 360 version of FFXIII, will feature compressed audio and video, presumptively to help fit its hefty capacity onto the DVD format.
The PS3 version of the title: Final Fantasy 13 will come completely uncompressed on a single dual-layer Blu-ray disc, according to this report.
A dual layer DVD holds just beneath 9GBs of data. A dual layer Blu-ray disc can withstand a massive 50GBs, which is why the PS3 version of the title will be uncompressed.
Only a week or so until we get to play one of the most eagerly anticipated titles of all time…in japan that is.

Yeah! Score one for Playstation… *cough*(even though the whole thing should have been completely exclusive, and if that were true then we’d have it by now or it’d be a bit bigger or more polished by now, now that i’m complaining. First day buy!!!)*cough* Ace…
thats a really long and accurate cough
Looks great. This is a must-have for me alongside Gran Turismo 5.
i am skeptical about gt5 as to whether it will be as good as forza. I dont have a 360, and wont get a 3sh*tty , however people say forza 3 is good, and it looks good on the ads. I wonder if GT5 will be able to stand up to that?
believe me tomtoon, the GT5 team is paying very close attention to Forza 3 and I can guarantee they refuse to give up their throne as the best driving simulator for consoles. Besides, just like in Final Fantasy, the blu-ray advantage of the PS3 will help them immensely to include a lot of extra things that Forza doesn’t have. Now all we can do is sit back and hope that the same thing happens for the next version of Metal Gear Solid that is supposed to be multi-platform. I absolutely love that the PS3 is finally starting to show its dominant potential.
FF fitting on a single blu ray disc is cool and all, but if its anything like the way they fit mgs, i think id rather have multiple discs. It took way longer for chapters to load on mgs than it would have if i just got up and switched discs myself. we’ll see how square implements this.
@Westside
they already said it wont have an install and it will stream like UC2. 1 time load sequence .. MGS the chapters were not loaded all at once.. instead threw chapters. which was dumb but not overall bad… i think Konami should have a disk update to load all the chapters.
@WestSiide
that has to do with the developers, not the blu-ray disc
Hate to have to say it but we can also thank Sony and the cost of Blu-Ray for there even being an alternative to compare it to. I’ve seen PS3 owners shrug off one inferior multiplatform port after the other. Even even in the most obvious cases like Bayonetta where the differences are painfully obvious.
We pass off inferior graphics, severe framerate defeciences and other glitches and bugs and suggest it has no effect on the game. Then turn and act like a game is ruined because it doesn’t fit on one disc. Now that that issue is proving not to be a big deal and now we are scraping the bottom of the barrel looking at audio discrepencies that really aren’t going to affect the overwhelming majority.
They are getting one of the biggest gaming franchises on their platform that many said would never happen. Some uncompressed audio and a few extra discs is not going to bother them, and it only makes us look desperate and butthurt to make issues out of such small trivial things. The same type of small, trivial things we wrote off time after time after time with one inferior multiplatform port after another.

You have a good point. To me, small discrepancies between multiplatform games in console are trivial. Just as I don’t care how MW2 looks a little better than X360 than on the PS3, I don’t care how FF XIII will be better on the PS3 than on the X360.
But the the causes or reasons for why one game is better on one console over the other is very different. Since launch, X360′s versions have been better because the developers were unable to understand and master the PS3 technology, which has been – although more powerful – newer and more complicated. These issues however can be improved upon easily as developers understand the PS3 more. On the other hand, the reason why FFXIII will be better on the PS3 is because of concrete limitations of hardware, such as the X360′s DVD, which cannot be improved upon. Hence, as time passes and developers begin to better understand the PS3 more, multiplatforms games will become at least identical among the two consoles, if not better on the PS3 because the PS3′s untapped potential.
@acm7vu
just to clarify MW2 actually looks better on ps3. It has a brighter and smoother picture. Just wanted to say that.
Honestly I dont care if one version of the game is slightly better than the other. The only time I care is when there is a obvious difference. Little things doesn’t hurt the game but when there is an obvious difference between the versions it really annoys me.
360 never should have gotten final fantasy, It’s just not what the microsoft crew is into. I remember playing gears online and me and a friend were talking about FF12 and the other people online called us fags cuz we like FF. The only reason M$ owners are happy is that its not exclusive to PS3…they probably wont even buy it
hello ..
who cares, most of them would steal it off torrents sites
i agree with those that say it doesn’t matter the minor differences on different platforms, yet a hardware limitation remains forever for consoles, unlike for PC where upgrades make it superior & yet most expensive gaming machine.
i think exclusive titles must remain so, as for FF it wasn’t a SONY exclusive, don’t forget it all started on Nintendo
& at some time was multi platform.
i’ve seen so many Xbox360 lovers (not just owners ha!) teasing me when SONY lost exclusivity on FF, MGS & mostly Tekken, they used to say that the PS3 will never catch up with others & will certainly lose the Next-gen war. a few rumors & months later .. well here comes the SLIM & a price cut, now they have shut their mouth when i come with such an impressive wishlist of the PS3 Lineup.
The Blu-ray will make most games look better & faster when the developers will master the beast, like the 1st party are doing, & there’s certainly room for improvement. Let just the Xbox360 good games be on the Xbox360 & we don’t have to down rate or criticize, comparison must only be made on the feelings we get when we have tried both side. & let the PS3 Exclusives be our consoles’ pride without boasting it as if we were kids or lame fanboys
Long live the game industries, long live quality & may the machine we have give us what we want!
btw, i must find a way to get a lot of money, i’m after GT5, GOW3, HR, MNR, maybe FFXIII & / or FFvsXIII. As for Multi i’m after Dante’s inferno, Darksiders, Castlevania … & yet i still need to buy MW2, AC2 while my UC2 hasn’t been delivered yet!
PS3 rulez !!!
Cheers!
Here in the philippines, pirated copies of the game for the 360 will probably be in local markets like rain…. yeah thats how it is here.. But if your looking for Blu-Ray disc.. you wont find any,, at least on my case.. except for those pirated DVD’s with blue-ray logos which is really not hehehe.. Well anyways.. have fun guys oh and This is a must buy for me.
I love it when you have your occasional comments such as “c’mon guys, just enjoy whatever console you have and there’s no point to bash the other one”. The console wars are here to stay. I see this whole thing more as video game politics because it is, these console makers and their strategies and policies affects us the fans, so we take sides to support which console maker better fit our needs. So now they compete against each other to try and gain more support from the masses, with their promises of a better service… I support Sony. Call me a fanyboy… I don’t care. The point is I will continue to support my system of choice loudly and proudly while I bash on the competition. So for those who think that they will change the video game industry with such comments as “here come the fanboys” “the company doesn’t care about you, so supporting them like that is useless”…. Those are the statements that no one cares about.
As for Sony loosing former exclusives to MS, I’m glad this price drop came. Tekken 6 was the first game to show that going multiplatform wasn’t going to get the results they were expecting, with selling less than half what it sold on the PS3. FFXIII and MGS:R will show the same thing. Most of the Xbox demographic is FPS’s. Sure they gloat about how Sony lost another exclusive, but so what, no one is buying them on the 360. By 2010 Sony will officially take over 2nd place in the race.
i only love my ps3 cos it only does everyhting
We should rejoice because our *cutscene movies* are uncompressed? Wow! So that would mean FF13 is only about movies? Let me laugh. If the matter at hand would have been textures and not movies, yeah I would have agreed that our version is superior. But cutscene movies? This is pathetic marketing.
….. this really isn’t too much to brag about. I’m as excited as the next bugger, but this isn’t very substantial.
