The November 2009 NPD Numbers have been released. For ill informed readers, the NPD Group is the leading independent video game research firm, that monitors and tracks video game hardware and software sales in North America.

Here is my theory on this Xbox 820K last month.
1. MS and IW market WF2 was an xbox 360 exclusive and the limited edition MW2 Xbox 360 help MS a lot
2. the 1+ million banned xbox 360. With the release of MW2, a lot of people probable purchase an arcade unit for WF2 so that they can play online with their friends.
3. the $99 xbox 360 SKU both Amazon and Walmart were selling at the beginning of last month. That had to help a lot.
If the xbox 360 outsell the PS3 in December in the US, then my theory is wrong. As of now, I stand by my theory.
Oh and the PS3 outsold the xbox 360 by 152K last month in Japan. So the PS3 outsold the xbox 360 by 52K last month when combining the US and Japan numbers.

I totally agree with your theory. Those Best Buy commercials were detrimental to the sales of the PS3.
BTW, when was the 360 $99? I would have jumped on that sale if I knew about it.
if your gona make that theory then you would have to add that the ps3 numbers were padded by people trading in their fats for slims.. just throwing that out there

Some of the sales for the 360 could have been because of RRoD victims taking advantage of the deals and bundles. They both equal out IMO.
The Wii is still a power seller. I always have this thought in the back of my mind: Nintendo may have revived the industry after Atari ruined it and everything with the NES, but wouldn’t it be ironic if the Wii, Nintendo’s best selling console since the NES, caused it to crash again? Just a thought.

why in the hell would anyone trade in their fat for the slim? that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. be it the 20, 60, 40 or 80 why would there be a need for anyone to trade in a fully functional ps3 just to have a slim.
Gotta love the excuses behind the sales of the PS3/360.
PS3 will never catch up. It’s over. Who cares? Play the damn games and be happy.
