Recently, EA has shown a lot of love for the PlayStation 3 with their latest title, Dante’s Inferno. Visceral Games’ gory blockbuster game will be available to play as a demo on the PS3 today, two weeks before the Xbox 360. Now, further cementing their relationship with Sony, Electronics Arts has announced an exclusive “Divine Edition” for the PlayStation 3.
In addition to the standard game, all those who purchase Dante’s Inferno on the PlayStation 3 will receive this special edition which includes
developer commentaries, a Wayne Barlowe digital art book, the soundtrack to the game and a digital version of the complete Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno all for the standard retail price of $59.99
Jonathan Knight, Executive Producer for Dante’s Inferno, commented:
“We are thrilled to offer an exclusive game pack for PlayStation 3 gamers. The PlayStation platform has a long history of delivering AAA action/adventure games. Adding Dante’s Inferno to that rich catalogue is very exciting for the team. And with the demo now available on the PlayStation Network, players can finally get a taste of what awaits them in the full game on Feb 9th.”
The reasoning behind EA’s decision to give preferential treatment to Sony’s console is unclear. However, with God of War, one of the most hotly anticipated games of next year, releasing a mere month after Dante’s Inferno, and with both violent, mythological, hack-and-slash adventure titles garnering numerous comparisons, EA will certainly have to put extra effort into enticing PlayStation gamers to their Biblical gorefest.

In the Dante’s Inferno “Gates of Hell” demo, gamers will experience Dante Alighieri’s re-imagined past, as a crusader who returns home to Florence to discover his true love, Beatrice, murdered. Sworn to her rescue, Dante must journey to the Gates of Hell and beyond to battle undead monstrosities, unholy boss demons, and Death himself. EA’s Dante’s Inferno is an epic descent through Dante Alighieri’s nine circles of hell – limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. At a blazing-fast 60 frames per second, each circle features unique environments, all new creatures, terrifying demons, story elements and are scored distinctly to set a tone that fits each circle of sinners.
Dante’s Inferno will be released for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and Sony PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) on February 9, 2010 in North America and is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. i kinda enjoyed this little rip off’s demo, but some of the things i truly hated was the way some sequences were done, now, some cinema’s were done in flash animation that coulve been done a lot better, and it all plays inside the cross he has sewn into his skin? also the transitions are done poorly, videos just stop playing and suddenly they throw u back into the action were stuff is already doing on and ur character isnt even enabled to be controlled. WTF?
x-tras are usually a waste for me, but it is a nice gesture.
I like the way Darksiders looks btw, Ruin follows War.
@Ruben Perez
I would also like to add that the QTE was done poorly. On several occasion, I didn’t notice that I had to press a button. They need to make the QTE more user friendly in the sense that it needs to be place and have better icons for the user to see. Also, I found that my character would loose health randomly and my character would dodge randomly when I don’t even intended to.
If they can fix all those problems mention by me and Ruben Perez, I think that EA have a solid title on their hands.
Loved the demo. Probably will be picking this up for PS3.
@TheHater
it’s a demo that means it’s not the final product and can you actually name a game out there with quick time events that used it for anything other then to keep you from falling asleep when the cut scenes were playing.
They know that PS3 users are heavily looking forward to GoW3. What better way to make the game appeal more than to give them extra incentives. PS3 wins by this. As it’ll have GoW3 and extra incentives for Dante’s Inferno. I just hope that Sega, Platinum, and Sony would be able to make the PS3 version of Bayonetta better.
Longfellow? Longfellow!? I don’t want no Longfellow translation! I want the Allen Mandelbaum translation. Much, much better version.
Beyond that I’m going to try the demo out and make a decision based on that. But given that this game is starkly different from the book (that old saying of don’t read the book before the movie comes into play here) I’m more likely to pick up GOWIII.
score one for Sony
this sucks! I mean, yay for us for getting a bigger package deal- that’s cool i suppose. What’s not cool is the shitty game.
I swear to god that sony could take god of war and their game into any court, lay them down on the judge’s desk and say “i demand justice.” and the judge wouldn’t even have to work to find why they were infringing on copyright.
for got sakes- the button layout is almost identical, and the health bar is IDENTICAL, even the color!!!!
