As one of the largest Video Game shows in the world, the Spike Video Game Awards covered 28 different categories of gaming, from the Studio of the year, to the all important Game of The Year. As soon as the VGAs started and Jack Black got best voice actor you knew that most of the winners were going to be jokes.
seriously just look at Uncharted 2. How does it game of the year but Assassin’s Creed 2 beats it as the best Action/Adventure game?

Seriously, Jack Black’s little performance made me want to quit watching. And why in the world was Modern Warfare 2 nominated for best graphics???
The reason why Assassin’s Creed 2 won is because 360 owners can’t play uncharted.
The reason why games like Assassin’s Creed 2 beats out Uncharted 2 players is because U2 sold 2 million, Assassin’s Creed sold 3 million, and hardly any of the Xbox players (not necessarily Xbots) are voting for Uncharted 2 because they can’t play it. They might have judged it from their experience with the first 1.
They have to separate platforms by genre and allow them the ability to rate the games in order. Their favorite of the list would get 5 points, the least favorite would get 1 point.
Of course Dragon Age Origins won the best Role Playing game, it’s on ALL THREE platforms, was 35 dollars during Black Friday, and you could even buy it online for about the same price. A difficult game like Demon’s Souls doesn’t stand a freaking chance since it was limited print, and only on 1 platform with some very scary publicity about the difficulty levels. Why is Bowser’s Inside Story even on this list anyway considering the fact that it’s so out of place with all these other RPGs out there…
Each console should have its own list of things to vote for, and then MAYBE a multiplatform list. I mean pitting Demon’s Souls against Dragon Age Origins? Demon’s Souls didn’t even have 1 million printed copies. Dragon Age Origins had 1 a million between the 360 and the PS3, and on top of that had an undisclosed amount of PC copies uncounted, PLUS you have all the discounts given to the 3 platforms. Maybe i”m stupid for not buying Dragon Age Origins on Black Friday but I beat 150 hours worth of Demon’s Souls gameplay in like 2 or 3 weeks, and i figured I’d get more gameplay out of a gamefly account than I would for Dragon Age Origins, so I made that decision.
Honestly the ONLY reason I didn’t buy Dragon Age Origins is because I’m waiting for them to make a Game of the Year edition with all the DLC next year because it looks to be very DLC heavy and I’m waiting to see what they’re doing with it. So I blame them for me not buying it.
It’s not like that’s the last time the game is ever going on sale. Very VERY bad organization on Spike VGAs. Those awards are a joke at best.
After just recently starting to replay Killzone 2 on Elite I can’t but be surprised that it didn’t win ‘Best Graphics’ award. I have platinumed U2 and what not, but Killzone 2 is just way to pretty to be forgotten like that… It makes you wonder that all the games that are gunna be released early next year are going to be overlooked by the end of the year.
In all honesty, I never take the VGA’s seriously. It’s like trying to take the Teen Choice Awards seriously in all honesty. I agree with some of the winners (Flower), but others are a meh to me.
That said, I was shocked Flower was mentioned for anything even more shocked it actually WON, especially when factoring in the demographic this show targets. Congrats to SCEA and ThatGameCompany!

your argument is valid and that is the reason why I didn’t expect Uncharted 2 to win Game of the Year.
I just don’t understand it losing to Assassin’s Creed 2 in one category but beating it in another. Doesn’t make much sense. Shouldn’t it either lose in both or win in both?!?!

The only awards that confused me where the Jack Black award and the best action game being Assassin’s Creed 2. Needless to say I haven’t played AC2, but I was in the UC2 beta and really can’t back that but seriously it was game of the year but not the best adventure game? I’m not tryin to knock AC2 but it’s just weird. Overall I’m pretty satified, I mean UC2 getting the win with all those Xboxfanboys out there is insane. Like all PS3 owners have to have voted and some Wii owners cause other why the fanboys would have spammed the hell outta the votes and MW2 would have won. Eventhough that game is on both systems it still go beat out.
So these are just like the academy awards then.
Reminds me of awards in school where all the pretty popular people win. Why did Jack Black win? His performance was terrible when compared to that list.

He was playing a character modeled after himself… It would have been extremely pathetic if Jack Black couldn’t play himself that well. XD
Good to see Uncharted 2 getting the recognition it deserves. Other than that, meh. Tiger Woods golf was nominated? That game where the Wii gets the whole game, and PS3 and Xbox owners get half of it and can pay $10 each for the other half of the courses? That’s why I can’t take any of this crap seriously. And if the PC is taken into consideration, how can MW2 be in the running for anything? It’s absolutely horrible on the PC (1.5 / 5 rating on Amazon).
My biggest beef with this list is Street Fighter IV winning Best Fighting Game…Blazblue should have won by a mile….not Cookie Cutter Punch & Kicker 4…but thats why it won- because everyone knows about street fighter.
Tekken 6 should have gotten Best Fighting Game, or anything except SFIV
and I wish Shatter was at least nominated for Best Downloadable Game, but i’m okay with Flower winning
i dont see how halo odst could win best original score. I believe that uncharted 2 got better reviews overall!
I do not really have an issue with any winners. Sure AC2 winning best action game over UC2 was strange but its a great game and Jack Black in Brutal Legend was very good.

By “score” they don’t mean “reviews score”. They’re talking about the “musical score”, the soundtrack.
I, fortunately, missed the awards because I was busy playing video games. But I read some articles on it and Joystick’s live blog (they really need to work on their live blogging skills). From what I read, the VGA’s should have been named the Video Game Commercial. More time spent on unveiling, and occasionally not even that, new games that were coming in the new year.
I’m glad that I spent more time trying to get $30,000 AutoTrader prize than watching this waste of time.

@Makai – well when you put it that way,,, its pretty funny. But whether or not Jack Black can play himself isn’t really the issue… the issue is that Jack Black himself just isn’t that great. Mark Hamill for the win! And really Nolan North is top notch too, although lately I’m just hearing him in everything, between U2, AC2, and now the upcoming Dark Void (I think, it sounds a hell of a lot like him).
