Is good ol' Sweet Tooth going to finally grace our PS3s?
David Jaffe, director for such PlayStation classics as the Twisted Metal and God of War franchises, is very excited for his next project. It is still a mystery as to what the new title could be, but there are some hints that we may know soon enough.
According to Mr. Jaffe’s recent tweets, they have cleared a recent major milestone that has been “zipped up and sent to Sony” for approval, testing, etc.. No information on this new project has been released, but the fact that some code has been sent to Sony means that we will hopefully be seeing whatever this is sooner rather than later. It was mentioned that we should expect to hear something in the “Dec/Jan/Feb” timeframe. What are you hoping that this could be?

I hope its something totally new, not Twisted Metal or God of Ware releated. New take on a genre perhaps, not sure but im sure it’ll be something to watch at least.
hoping for a new IP
Jaffe rocks , that is all.
hopefully a new IP. im sick of reruns
i think whatever it is, it will be good but i am actually wanting a Twisted Metal game, those were some great times
A new IP would be cool but twisted metal needs the next gen treatment, games like full auto were trash and to date there isn’t any other game like the twisted metal series. The last one I played was Twisted Metal 2 for ps1 over a decade ago, lol, damn! I feel like an old man saying that.
Gamers Day Conference Will Be The Event Of Revelation!
l want twisted metal for this console generation
As much as I’d like to see a new IP, I think I would first want to see a current-gen Twisted Metal. Jaffe already had an experiment with Calling All Cars!, time to give his fans what they are clamoring for!
Twisted Metal is just plain played out. The concept is just out dated, now if he went crazy and came up with a new IP then I’d be interested. But Twisted Metal? Come on, another driving game that is a continuation of a franchise that died on the PS2. Maybe a new PSP IP with true online play. But I wouldn’t fire up my PS3 to play a game that I got tired of on PS1, but then again it’s on PSN as we speak and it’ll stay there. Kinda like thinking another Tony Hawk game is gonna work on the PS3 with no changes to the controls but just a new faceplate. Makes me feel ill just thinking about it, and why you say; because it’s old. Which is why Skate killed the franchise and made them have to come with the BULL which is Tony Hawk Ride. And it failed on several different levels. Let’s let Twisted Metal live on in fond memories and not beat a dead horse with another take that will still feel like the first pass. Get in the think tank and surpise us with a whole new genre that will scare us cause it’s soo darn good.
@Natiej85
i completely agree.. most that want a new twisted metal just want to relive an old series. Games that are epic like GOW deserve remakes. calling all cars was garbage thats why they pulled the plug on the online (not worth it and people didnt care).
@shadowjin
Calling All Cars wasn’t garbage lol. Maybe not enough content (Jaffe himself admitted he could have spent more time on the game), but it was a fun game to play. It was over two years old and there have been so many good PSN games since then that I don’t think anyone was playing CAC online anymore. It’s still a blast to play split-screen with a few friends though.
who knows, but I vote for something new.
Probably hope its a new IP
@smokkey..
i understand what you mean.. but still…… it failed to hold peoples intrest. It recived no player support. (that speaks for itself) what can you expect from a 6$ game? Spent more time on the game ? its a 6$ game. whats he expect? to sell like a GOW when it was just a low budgeted game. No one played it online because no one cared and like most PSN games they have low replay value UNLESS there disk games like warhawk, burnout Paradise etc. Thats my issue with the PSN and many agree.. PSN games are a 1 time ride.. but replay value is limited unless there disk games. Can you tell me a game where everyone is raving about weeks after its release? fatprincess died quickly, flow (boring), flower (awesome game but little replay value), critter crunch (awesome game but no one is online which means repeat the same puzzle patterns in single player mode) and the list keeps going and going…im all for rehashes but throw in a new IPs once inawhile..
What is it with everyone clamoring for new IP’s? Where were you guys when Heavenly Sword came out? Now their going multiplatform because of the disappointing sales. Amazing games such as Sly Cooper and ICO didn’t sell like the developers would have liked, yet everyone still wants new IP’s. How come Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune only now, after almost 2 years did they finally reach over 2 million sales when the PS3 has over 25mil consoles sold? What is this like the “Cool” thing to do now? Is this a “trend”? I mean, you ain’t a “Cool” gamer if unless you’re ignoring the classics and the urge to play new iterations of them, and instead whining about new IP’s? Is this what’s happening right now with the gaming community? Every game site I go, I see at least a handful of people wanting new IP’s, new IP’s, every time there’s an article of a possible classic coming back . Seriously guys, this isn’t Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Madden, these games come out every year! Yet when you hear about Twisted Metal possibly coming back you guys act like Twisted Metal: Black came out last year! New IP’s are RISKY business, companies don’t just want to put out new things, when the demographic is so obsessed with FPS’s thanks to Xbox, everyone knows that’s where the money is at now, that’s why Borderlands sold good. The decision to bring SF back was not an easy one because not even Capcom was sure if it would sell good. Why do you think Take-Two’s profits went down this year, as opposed to last year when GTAIV came out? How many of you guys have Demon Souls? Bottom line is new IP’s will come when they are ready to come, but for that time being, If the last game from a classic franchise was from the PS2? Don’t try to act “cool” “hip” “in with the crowd” and bash the idea of it coming back, instead, just shut up and embrace the return of another franchise that made the Playstation brand what it is today.
@Xael
shut the fuck up.
people want a new IP because theres sick of rehashes END OF STORY. Theres a diffrence in getting a new IP from a no name company than a creative team. BTW UC is a NEW IP.. its not from the ps1-ps2 era. Hevenly sword was not the best new game out AND if you remember was the first good game on the CELL A.K.A easier to program for now, not back than.
If you think its all about “getting a cool new game” than stop drinking and posting unthought babble. stop with the retarded ‘risky game explination’. You think people dont know? why do you think many want old games but ALSO want new games? because there tiered of RB, GH, Tony Hawk etc. do your research on Steet fighter.. CAPCOM went on record saying they came back because the demands were high (from fans). before you tell people to shut up and embrace the return.. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.. NOT IN IT.
just because people want a new IP doesnt mean they will bitch if a classic comes back . most gamers WANT something new..do you really need to know why people want a new IP? thats kinda sad..
@shadowjin
You missed the point entirely loser, but I can tell you’re one of those “cool” gamers wanting to get in on the bandwagon of whining for new IP’s. My point is new IP’s are RISKY business for game developers, no one is just going to jump into funding a new IP for the hell of it. My point to all of this is that you people want new IP’s yet, when Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune releases, it takes 2 YEARS to get respectable sales!!! 2 years!!!!! It’s hard to find an audience to new IP’s when the gaming industry is saturated with FPS’s. I’m all for new IP’s but complaining and bitching about it isn’t going to get these developers to rush out to come up with something brand spanking new to the small number of gamers that fucking bitch about it. I read up on the new Halo, and aside from all the console wars flaming, I see like a few dozen pathetic assholes like yourself complaining that they want a new IP. With so many companies shutting down, you think game developers just want to rush out and try something new, or do you think that they would want come up with a new iteration of a beloved franchise? Again you fucking try to explain to me why Take-Two (Publisher of GTA) didn’t profit nearly as good as the previous year when GTAIV came out?
And don’t even get me started on Street Fighter faggot! I’m a HUGE fan of the franchise and I love what their doing with SSFIV. But unlike your dumbass, I read into all the interviews they had with Ono about the development in SFIV, Capcom was NOT in a rush to put it out there. Yes the demand was there. But fucking first get your facts right, the demands from fans for a true sequel was there since SFIII3rd Strike came out!!!!!!!! You tell me why did it take so fucking long to finally put out SFIV????? They wanted to make sure they can bring back the people who played SF back in the early 90′s and forgot about it. SFIV was more like a nostalgia trip than anything else. Again because I read into the development interviews, even they said so themselves, SFIV appeals more to a casual crowd like SFII did, while SFIII appealed more to a hardcore crowd, and so if pattern tells you anything SFV will go hardcore again. All of that I read right out of the interviews, but of course, you don’t know that, since your too busy “thinking outside the box”. Hmmm so now SFIV sells good, and guess what? SSFIV will follow.
Oh no wait, but if people like you had your way, Capcom will be gambling all their earnings from SFIV on a new IP and HOPE that it sells good.
You ask for new IP’s yet you wouldn’t which ones came out even if you got them for christmas.
Look at ArkSystem Works. for example, the makers of Guilty Gear, great fighting game, they came out with iteration after iteration. Yet have you heard of Battle Fantasia? or the Fist of the North Star fighting game they also worked on for the PS2? I highly doubt it.
So I’m going to make my point clear once again, since you just got too busy getting butt hurt instead of realizing what I’m talking about.
It’s EXTREMELY hard to find an audience for a new IP, and these game companies know that, so they’re not going to come up with a new IP every time we get punks like you bitching about one. These game companies want to cater to the masses, the core audience will always be there, so they will put out games that people are familiar with. Simple as that. Stop bitching about new IP’s, it isn’t going to change their business strategy anytime soon.
I support new IP’s but I’m not going to bitch about them. Don’t you dare try to give me that whole “think outside the box” bullshit. I actually bought a 60g PS3 launch day with Resistance 1. I bought Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Launch day! I support my shit from Day 1, something I’m sure most of you clowns bitching for new IP’s don’t do.
They need to revive and re-amp twisted metal. I still play twisted metal 2 downloaded on my PS3, its a classic and takes me back to my younger days when friends and I would stay up till the crack of dawn playing TM
Bravo Xael,
you finally shut shadow up.
Regardless, I actually agree almost completely with your first post. I may not have worded it quite so angrily at fellow (right?) gamers, but the people will show when they want something new, louder than the ever present new IP hordes.
Now, to go against you- I would love to see Jaffe present a new IP, because straight from his mouth, he has said he has lots of ideas he would love to work on. We all know what he has dreamt up and given to us, so the idea of seeing the next, almost guaranteed, hit debut is quite exhilarating. You can’t compare Heavenly Sword to a new title Jaffe would release- the hype wouldn’t be nearly the same. I loved HS, but if it had “from the creator of Twisted Metal and the God Of War series comes….” you know damn well the masses of uninformed would turn their heads and follow. HS didn’t have that- it just looked like female kratos.
Regardless, Twisted Metal kicks total ass- and judging by Jaffe’s interviews over the summer where people (including Geoff Keighly) kept asking him if his new title was a TM game and he would get frustrated with them- I’m going to say 90% that it is.
Day 1 for me.
