With FIFA 10’s Ultimate Team arriving in the new year due to the massive success of the online component with over 40 million games played, Pro Evolution Soccer has some tough competition regarding extra content. It must produce solid DLC to compete with the miles ahead EA Sports’ massively popular FIFA franchise in terms of sales. Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 has been updated today along with some free DLC.

The free DLC includes three balls and ten new pairs of boots. The sports title has also been updated with some tweaks from Konami:

On the other side, the update makes it even easier to use the game’s comprehensive formation settings, and also adds icons to show the connectivity status of online players. All settings can now be saved and Stocked Data will be loaded automatically, speeding up play immediately. Likewise, the new connectivity icons will show the user as a Grey icon, with Green, Yellow and Red icons detailing the quality of the opponent’s connection, with red being the worse.

PES is a wonderful franchise which, sadly, has lost its’ way during the next gen wars.

EA’s big bucks have enabled FIFA to embrace the online opportunity providing some truly astounding options whilst PES has struggled to step up and has served up a lagfest three times running.

How FIFA can offer 10v10 that’s pretty solid and smooth whilst PES struggles to provide a 1v1 that’s lagless is an indicator that not all companies can adapt to changing consumer environments.

I think someone should now read a eulogy to PES
