Early December, EA officially announced the sequel to critically acclaimed horror title Dead Space. Visceral Game’s Dead Space 2 once again follows the adventure of unlucky engineer Isaac Clarke, and takes place in a highly-populated space station called “Sprawl”. Now that the announcement is nearly one month old, screenshots for the title have emerged.

Wow graphics look much better than the original and that’s not to say the original didn’t look good.
Also a brand new enemy in the sequel.
Can’t wait to see how Isaac gets out of the mess in the originals ending.
Also can’t wait to complete DS1 on…..gulp…..impossible.
If anyone from the DS team is reading for the sequel please let weapons and such carry over to impossible.

So… I’ve had the GI issue for at least a week now that has the ten page exclusive. I can tell you this: Dead Space 2 will begin on the Sprawl before the outbreak has taken place. It is three years after the events of DS1, and Isaac’s mind is still screwed up from it. Apparently the psychological effects of the marker are semi permanent, and this state of psychosis will play a large role in the story line, primarily with him and others (including you, the player) second guessing his judgement. As the events of the outbreak on the sprawl unfold, Isaac will be raised to a hero like status, as he is the only one who knows how to fight the necromorphs. As a result, mission structure will no longer be Isaac go do this, Isaac go do that, but rather with NPCs turning to him for help, and him sending them to do the menial tasks.
Certain things have been tuned tweeked or added in order to create a more diverse and solid combat situation. Number one, which most people probably already know, is that zero grav flight will have more control, with the ability to shoot during it. Also, the Sprawl is specifically set up with larger open areas, so you can be more mobile in combat, rather than getting backed into a corner all the time. Enemies will be more intelligent and use strategic coordination to attack you (an example was where one will distract you by making noise and poking its head out in front of you, and then a second necromorph jumps you from behind). Also, the kinesis ability has been sped up, to make it more useful and effective during combat (think bioshock).
This is all off the top of my head from what I read like a week ago… but if you have a chance, pick up the GI issue, its got some other interesting details, and some wicked pics too. This game is gonna rule.

NICE, thanks BWM. It was always slightly irksome so me that hammond and daniels never did anything to help out. “Isaac! I’m detecting a large organic mass above the bay doors…. will you come here and take care of it for me, I’m a female NPC and therefore am never given any redeeming qualities.”
