Many rumors have been swirling recently about what setting Treyarch will focus on in their newest Call of Duty game; that is set to hit store shelves in Winter 2010. Unlike Infinity Ward, with their Call of Duty : Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, they have stuck with the often-used WWII setting. New rumors floating about point to Vietnam as the new battleground.
According to “reliable sources” at PlanetXbox360, the newest Treyarch game will focus heavily on the story, and the struggles that war puts on individual soldiers. Just like “Saving Private Ryan” helped inspire the original Call of Duty games, and actually the Medal of Honor games; the game will draw inspiration from film classics such as “Platoon”, “Apocalypse Now” and “Full Metal Jacket”.
Is this a good direction for Treyarch to be taking? Has WWII finally been exhausted? Should Vietnam or modern-day be the battlegrounds for today’s games? And just remember, these rumors have not been confirmed by Treyarch or Activision; so nothing is set in stone yet.

It really doesn’t matter…these games are all the same…just in a different setting… Wherever it is it will sell a billion copies.

Yeah, I agree with you. The whole Vietnam setting will be a welcomed change but really, it’s going to be the same game over again.

No , not really. Treyarch needs to give up and let Infinity Ward do Call of Duty games from now on, modern warfare is where its at not WWll

I played CoD 1, 2 & MW1. I’ve had enough of it. So long CoD, you will not be missed

If it is WW2 then I’ll be abandoning the COD franchise once and for all.

They will have skipped a conflict if they did that. Korea falls between Vietnam and WWII, as a matter of fact it is an ongoing conflict in the legal terms since no peace treaty was ever signed between the Communist North Korea and UN/South Korean Gov’ts. So it is a “Modern” conflict. But Vietnam would be a more controversial and maybe make more money since you would not have to advertise much since there will be those that will create buzz about the game by filing lawsuits on its content and coverage of a very conflicted war.

Has a game even been made to set in Vietnam? If not, this will be a first.

I do recall some games trying Vietnam as their setting, but I can’t remember the games. Probably weren’t any good.

yes there has, it was Battlefield Vietnam for PC

to me it doesn’t really make a lot of sense to make a game based on Korea or Vietnam…no disrespect to the veterans of those wars but you don’t really play a game so that it will end in a draw and your military pulling out without a victory. Great ending to a game…”okay we just finished the battle, no one wins the war, everybody go home.” To me these wars are best remembered by movies and books that can tell more about the personal stories involved, not a video game where the point is to win.

treyarch is a s***ty, inferior developer…its as simple as that…and anything they make is going to be crap or less than half as good as anybody else could have made it

Didnt treyarch use the game engine from MW1 to make WAW? If thats the case why do they even bother making games that they dont build a engine for from the ground up? Seems IW is doing most of the work anyway by allowing them to use their game engine.

Well atleast their logo looks good. I won’t be playing the game so it doesn’t matter what that turns out to be like. Maybe a open beta or a demo but I won’t be spending a dime or whatever they decide to make. I haven’t even given MW or MW2 a chance. Just not down with shooters soo much. Well unless I’m shooting aliens or zombies other than those creatures, I’m just not into killing humans no matter how bad their living counterparts are. Thus I play R2 and K2 and of course the UC series but that just because the story isn’t about war and it’s badass, lol.
