PlayStation LifeStyle – Game of the Year 2009

01/01/2010 Written by Richard Allen

PlayStation LifeStyle names its Game of the Year for 2009. This year represented a year for excellence in gaming. Early in 2009 we were all finally treated to Killzone 2 and fans and critics alike received the game warmly. inFamous introduced us to Cole MacGrath and his electrical abilities. This summer most of us spent some time with the caped crusader in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Not to mention the holiday season greats such as: Assassin’s Creed II, Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank a Crack in Time. Unfortunately this doesn’t make our job any easier, but we have selected the game of the year based solely on excellence.

This year’s Game of the Year distinction goes to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune set very high expectations and sequels have a tendency to introduce too much or too little to the series. Uncharted 2 not only surpasses the original game, it sets a new bar in the third person adventure genre. The blend of combat, platforming and puzzles keeps gamers engaged and is the reason we all play video games.

The visuals are top notch and the audio is superb. Voice-over work is done with more care then Uncharted, the characters are believable and the heroes are very likable. The story plays out like a modern day Indiana Jones adventure. Anyone who owns a PS3 should include this in their library of games.

I agree, but it did have stiff competition from KZ2 and iNFAMOUS however.

The grammar in the article leaves a lot to be desired however, so unfortunately, there are no awards for that!

There was really no other choice was there?? Sure there were a bunch of other great games this year, and I loved both Killzone 2 and inFamous, but there was no other game that performed and played as close to perfection as Uncharted 2.

I agree, I have never gotten into these types of games before. Uncharted 2 opened my eyes to a whole new world!

Im VERY glad they decided to add the Multi-Player Online support. And by the looks of it people are still lineing up to play!

I just hope they keep adding DLC’s for this game to keep everybody playing!

    AWESOME! Another GOTY 4 U2!

  8. As good as Killzone 2 and inFamous were there’s no way any other game on ANY other system was as deep and rewarding as U2.

And U2 made it hard to play almost anything else because the graphic level of almost everything else just doesn’t compare. Assassin’s Creed II being the hardest because I really want to like the game but sometimes the close-ups and drama try too hard when compared to the beauty that is Uncharted 2′s cut-scenes.

i still need to get my DEALER to deliver it…
