John Koller Talks PlayStation 3D

01/11/2010 Written by Richard Allen

3D is the hot topic at this years CES and Sony is looking to position themselves as a winner. John Koller chats with Jeff Rubenstein from the PSBlog about PlayStation 3 and 3D. The PS3 is 3D ready and will only require a firmware update and of course the appropriate 3D display hardware.

Games and movies will require separate updates to the firmware. On the CES Floor the following games were playable in 3D. These games are not confirmed to be getting a 3D patch, these are purely for demonstration for CES.

  • Super StarDust HD
  • Gran Turismo 5
  • Avatar: The Game

Additionally MotorStorm was demonstrated at last years CES in full 3D glory. Check out this video from the PlayStation Blog for the full story.

it would be nice to know if the orig. 60GB PS3′s will be able to do it as well.. just to b sure

  3. Dont worry, it has been confirmed that all PS3′s will be compatible with the 3D firmware updates

    hello ..

would love to see this, even if it means will need to buy another 3D compatible TV (what will i do with the 42″ LCD then… *sniff* …

it will be great when we’ll have upgradeable Tellys ;)

    cheers!

  5. @Richy2k9 – upgradeable television — thats one hell of an idea. I was sorta hoping that my TV’s enormous refresh rate would allow it to do 3D, by using the “shutter glasses” that Sony is using for its 3D tvs.
