After a recent delay for the Japanese release of the racer and inevitably a western delay, Polyphony Digital’s boss and the mastermind behind the Gran Turismo series has revealed in an interview that Gran Turismo 5 will use the same amount Uncharted 2 used of the PlayStation 3′s processing power.
Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed during an interview with VentureBeat that Gran Turismo 5 will use “80 percent” of the PS3’s processing power, the same amount as Naughty Dog’s latest title.
It is about the same for the PS3, about 8o percent of the processing power. The PS3 hardware has a very high peak performance. The better you manipulate it, the better it performs.
When asked if the interface for racing games can be improved via Sony’s new motion controller, Yamauchi said:
It’s fun to play with steering wheels and gas pedals. But when you see the new motion controllers, I want to create a different kind of game.
After 5 Years in the making, and with 51 million Gran Turismo series games sold overall, Gran Turismo 5 is certainly shaping up to be one of the greatest racing titles of all time.
Oh yeah, it’ll be marvelous, fantastic, stupendous.
Some day.
80 percent? That explains why they look so good
that was code, the game is 80% finished. I know these things, I used to work for James Bond.
it’ll be a cool game….in about 5 years when it actually comes out. hah!
This brings me back to when I called naughty dog on the maxing out ps3 thing. I also remember the last GT5 article where somebody tried to blast U2 for being not as complex as this game. Well straight from the boss’s mouth it’s on par with U2 so I guess that argument went out the window.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so frustrated with a game BEFORE its been released. There were times during Killzone 2 when I was playing on Elite difficulty where I just said “FUCK THIS! How in the hell can this be THAT frustrating?”
I’ve reached that level with Gran Turismo 5 and its not even out yet.
You’re not the only one.
6 months separated from Uncharted 2 means they should be able to get even better performance out of that 80% than Naughty Dog did…or they should have just used more…Either way saying a game is using the same amount of processing power as a game made 6 months ago doesn’t mean too much, they should be telling us how they have made more advancements over that time period.
hello …
i may be getting that one in the end. it’s just E.P.I.C
cheers!
