Sony’s New Trademarked Titles To Use Motion Control

01/15/2010 Written by Zak Islam

Sony has filed trademarks for a few new game titles. It has not been confirmed yet whether the games will be full PlayStation 3 titles, but at least one of the titles will probably be related to the newly introduced motion controller.

Sony has trademarked titles Digi-Tiles, Earthshield, Legend of Kunoichi, and Smashbreak.  Website superannuation guesses:

Given the redundancy of the term “Smashbreak,” I will posit that at least one of these is related to Sony’s motion controller.

Start speculating on whether we will see the first games related to Sony’s new motion controller. Do you think the yet to be named motion controller will be a success or a failure? Let us know in the comments below!

Sony has the opportunity to make it a success, it’s just knowing what limits there should be.

If they try to make it the norm it will piss off the hardcore gamer so there needs to be a balance and knowledge of what games should use it. The Wii is based solely on the tech and is flooded with casual games and from what i’ve seen with natal so far it seems M$ will be falling into the same pit.

Sony has the opportunity to break this trend which IMO has given people doubts about it being a success, for instance if Elder Scrolls 5 comes out that would be a good game to use the tech with but games like Resistance and Uncharted should always stick with the standard controller.

It really is a toss up but its success is based really on just how well sony can balance things between the casuals and hardcores.

I agree, Hitman. I personally am not a fan of motion control, but at the same time, I’d like this to be a success for Sony.

I think the secret lies in not FORCING people to use motion control. If they want to have it available in every game, fine – but they also need to make sure that there are ‘standard’ control options available as well. That way, everyone’s happy.

This will depend on how Sony will define “SUCCESS”. I agree with some that the motion control is not for all hardcore games, it fits most with games that could get your arse off the couch and actively into the game. Certain games with swordplay in the hardcore genre along with casual games like bowling or fitness style games.

They would most likely be going after Nintendo casual gamers that might want a different style of control. But it should be a success in the casual genre for many.

  4. I would definitely like having the OPTION for motion control. Sorta like in GTA4 when I could do the vehicles with the six-axis, or with a normal control scheme. If I was fooling around or just doing side missions it was kinda fun, but then when I was getting serious I could switch back to normal controls, for a more precise and responsive feeling movement scheme.

I hope they utilize motion as well as it can be so that it will be a huge success. It would be sad if it became just another version of the Wii motion games. I want something better. I want a hardcore game like I am used to playing on the PS3 but with amazing motion controls! I hope that isn’t too much to ask because if it is they shouldn’t even be talking about the notion of motion! You like that?? Notion of Motion!

I don’t want a wii….if i had wanted one i would own one….i see nothing good coming of motion control only crappy games like the wii has……they are trying to cash in on the casual market just like microsoft is doing and since the wii did so well with shitty games thats what will come out for the ps3 and 360 with the motion controls….i say down with the motion controls…i am fine with my ps3 having awesome games that use a normal controller.
