Footage has just surfaced on a new prototype light gun for the PlayStation 3. Called the “XCM XFPS Fire Light Gun,” it is currently about 70% completed creation-wise. Check out a video of it in action after the jump.
This gun will be available for PlayStation 3 owners around the end of February or early March. An Xbox 360 version is also going to be released approximately two months later.
The original site this video was found on is in the Netherlands, so no word yet on if this accessory is coming stateside.

sounds good to me as long as it is supported with some great titles…although it seems like they could do better things with the new motion tech. and shooters…the PS Eye could detect where you are aiming and how you are holding your gun etc…
The gun will have a motion sensor, but that’s about as far as it will go in regards to position sensing. Because it looks like the only light part about this gun is the plastic housing. He doesn’t pull the gun up to shoot up, he uses the second analog stick or nub (video is pretty blurry in this regard) to look around. So it’s basically a gun look alike standard controller, with one analog stick and some of the triggers moved to the muzzle, one analog on top of the grip, X moved to the gun’s trigger position and the d-pad together with the others buttons placed along the barrel.
There is however a short 17sec video up on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-BnXUvvcog) showing the controllers capability to look around without using the analog stick / nub on the back, but the guy has to move the controller quite a bit around to do so. I don’t think that is practical for faster paced games, especially for the demoed “Call of Duty: World at War” which gets pretty intense and the “Where to look and shoot now? Who killed me?” parts in later levels, even on a standard controller, when you try to finish it on Veteran for example.
So my guess it that you possibly can flip a switch and let the motion controller do the work of the second analog stick (like a few mods of other controllers and even the PSP showed us in the past), but keep in mind you still need to hold the “half-controller” at the front to walk and use the triggers located there.
Don’t flame me for saying but it kinda looks a bit half assed or not put together well. I know it’s an early build but it just seems alike a control shaped likea gun. And that’s just over the top lame, he bairly moved that gun at all and I didn’t see an Eyetoy in sight, but maybe I’m just off this evening/morning, lol.
Why is there a wire hooked up to it? I didn’t bother looking at the video, but a wire? What is this last gen?
Did anyone consider this might just be a hoax. No? ok. If a cable connects the gun with the console it doesn’t mean it actually does somethign. Another guy could be controlling the on screen action with his DS3.
You know why I think that? Because the gun looks like ass, the control scheme is stupid and the name of the gun is equally stupid. Yet, you all believe anything that’s being thrown your way. Ignorance is bliss.

Wired controllers are cheaper to manufacture, because you don’t need a battery pack and charger in the unit when the USB port offers 500mA of juice.

It’s real, the company behind it (XCM) exists, but up until now they only made controller adapters so you could use an Xbox360 pad on a Playstation3 and vise versa. And aside from the motion control, there are similar guns on the market already (http://yfrog.com/0xgcon32j) plus this is just a prototype, so the final gun may look very different, if all they are doing now is optimizing the sensors.
