Peace Walker Could Have Been “5″, Says Kojima

01/23/2010 Written by Kyle P.

Many gamers are getting excited over the newest iteration into the Metal Gear Solid series, Peace Walker. What may disappoint some gamers is that the game is destined only for the PSP. However, with the series legend-Hideo Kojima monitoring every aspect of development, it is shaping up to be one of the must-have titles for the PSP this year. In a recent interview, Kojima discusses the pre-production of the game, and how it could have been Metal Gear Solid 5.

Speaking with the UK Official PlayStation Magazine, Kojima said:

“Since it is on PSP, I did not officially number it. But [with] the game design, story, number of staff and budget-you can say that this is a big project. It would’ve been number 5.

“It’s not a side story or a spin-off. It’s not like Portable Ops or Acid.”

He went on to elaborate on his specific role in development.

“I am deeply involved and this is the next Metal Gear.”

Metal Gear Solid : Peace Walker hits Japan March 18th and the United States and England, May 25th and May 27th, respectively.

I remember when we first heard about this at last years E3, Kojima said that he would be concentrating more on the PSP game and that would actually be more like MGS5 and he has another team working on the multi-platform PS3/360 game in which he will only play a minor role. So really he is keeping his talents loyal to the Sony exclusive and leaving the multi-platform in someone else’s hands. Obviously he won’t let the multi-plat game be a piece of crap and ruin the Metal Gear Solid name, but I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be a “dumbed down” MGS to fit the 360 crowd and in order to fit on a 360 DVD.

Regardless, I love anything with Metal Gear in the title. As giese stated, Kojima is not going to let his child be dragged through the mud, so I’ll wait patiently for every title.

  8. [...] Hideo Kojima stated that the game was so big, it could have been Metal Gear Solid 5, so it comes as no surprise that a perfectionist like Kojima would want a little bit more time with the game. var amzn_wdgt={widget:'Carousel'}; amzn_wdgt.tag='plays0b-20'; amzn_wdgt.widgetType='ASINList'; amzn_wdgt.ASIN='B001NIP3EG,B001YHX4B0,B001EYUQ8M,B000ZK695U,B000FQ2DTA,B001COV1CY,B002BRZ7JE,B002CZ38KA,B000ZK9QCS,B002BSA1C6' amzn_wdgt.title='Pre-Order The Hottest Titles of 2010'; amzn_wdgt.width='680';amzn_wdgt.height='200'; amzn_wdgt.marketPlace='US'; amzn_wdgt.shuffleProducts='True' [...]
