MAG is shaping up to start the new decade with a bang with its record-breaking 256 player online phenomenon. Despite the release date being only a day away for the exclusive, the FPS has not seen many reviews by the media yet. Jeff Rubenstein, Social Media Manager of SCEA, explains why.
Rubenstein explains the shortage of reviews for the highly anticipated MAG in the comments section of the US PS Blog:
Reviews can’t be written until the game is actually out. I mean, you can’t pass pre-release judgment on a game whose major, industry-leading feature (256 players in a single battle) can’t be tested until release day.
Expect some reviews to appear later as the servers go live to withhold 256 player mayhem today. Zipper Interactive‘s MAG will invade consoles on 26 January for North America and 29 January for Europe. Stay tuned to PSLS as we review the exclusive.
Duh. I was gonna have word with anyone that put out a review before launch.
Well the beta was OPEN for at least 10 days in Jan so that they had a chance to review the closest thing to what the release would be. But I bet there is an NDA for journalist/reviewers that will not allow them to rate the game.
We will see how it does up against Mass Effect2.

Reviews entitle the quality of the end retail product that consumers will ultimately get for the $59.99. Without having every game mode and piece of content, it’s not fair to place a judgment.
sounds legit. if it had a single mode you would have soemthing t review, but since its a online war…nothing to look at yet
I have heard some review sites are going to lower their score because of this gag. Kinda lame if you ask me to be so childish.
reviews really are just opinions and opinions are like assholes. Everyone’s got one and they all stink.
Reviewing a fully functional build is what is needed to give a fair score. But everyone now a days say that review sites are paid to make the reviews better for poor titles. I personally wouldn’t be sure of my own review score cause I hadn’t played the whole game or the full graphics and what not.
so I guess your opinion stinks too then Queef??? Guess I can’t listen to anything you say anymore…My personal feeling is that for every game review site they should have full profiles for the reviewers and then when you sign up you can fill out your own profile and fill out a questionnaire that will match you to the reviewer that matches closest to your likes/dislikes/gaming habits. So kind of like one of those online dating sites only for game reviews! The only problem with this is that it would require everyone working at PSLS, or any other site, to write a review for every game. But it would be the best way to get an accurate opinion for every gamer to base their purchases on…until then it looks like I will just have to keep reading everyone’s reviews and looking at all the videos and screenshots online and try to figure out what games to get and which ones to rent and which ones to never touch with a sterilized mile long stick with a rubber glove wrapped on the end.
If this game releases and the servers don’t crash, they deserve a gold star and a cookie and a wink.
to Giese095……it was a joke. An old mans saying…does sarcasm not rub you the right way? a paragraph was necessary for that huh? didnt know we were writing essays over jokes people cant take. I use reviews to decide on games too, I just thought of something and wrote it. if you want to play games and use your own opinion on them, get gamefly.
ive already read 3 reviews. i guess ill wait till its final
I’ll put money now on Joystiq and GT giving MAG bad reviews. Just sayin…
Also- what about Sebastian doing a “First Impression” thing to MAG? I think we’re all dying to know what it was like!
@SolidCake_
Playing for 2 hours with no hiccups this morning. Zipper gets a cookie. ; )
I F@%KING <3 MAG!
yea… that makes a whole lot of sense. I really can’t judge this game on the beta I played, there were just too many glitches that were in it, which I expect them to have worked out for the most part. Are the graphics better in the final version? I felt they were lacking, but not game breaking.
