When Mega Man 9 was released in 2008, it was considered one of the hardest games around until Demon’s Souls hit last year. With the release of Mega Man 10 coming soon, the trophy list has been revealed…and well..it’s bad news for trophy mongers. Really, really bad news.
Thanks to ahem, Xbox360achievements, this soul-crushing list of trophies will make any hardcore gamer cringe after reading it.
Whomp Wily – Clear the game once.
Blue Bomber – Clear the game in under an hour.
Superhero – Clear the game on hard.
Hard Rock – Make it to a boss room without getting damaged.
Headbanging – Defeat the 8 bosses without your helmet on.
Destroyer – Defeat 1000 enemies.
World Warrior – Defeat one of every type of enemy.
Trusty Sidearm – Defeat the 8 bosses with just your default weapon.
No Coffee Break – Clear the game without using any energy, mystery, or weapon tanks.
Tenacious – Clear the game without continuing.
Invincible – Clear the game without dying.
Mr. Perfect – Clear the game without getting damaged.
Do you understand why I think there will be very few gamers who will be able to get 100% the trophies in this game!?! Clear the game without dying? Yeah right! Or even worse, Clear the game without getting damaged? Who’s Capcom kidding? This is either a jab at the whole trophy phenomenon or Capcom just hates their fans. Probably a little bit of both.
We’ll let you know as soon as the release date hits for Mega Man 10.
I think its a fair jab at the trophy “phenomenon”. I know so many people that will only play games with trophies. They will only play them until they “plat” the game, and then sell it back. It doesn’t sound like fun to me anymore, just tedious work. Also, a lot of companies are putting out super duper easy trophies (ghostbusters – slide down the fire pole), that makes me think “ok, what the hells the point of having them anymore?” At least this way you have to earn it, and its worth showing off to the land of nerds. “hey bitches, I’m Mr. Perfect!”
I love that they keep with the retro box art, they’re genius.
But the trophys are hilarious. I have friends that will try it, while i sit back and laugh. Ridiculous, and i’ll bet most are bronze, right? no way jose.
Oh and is protoman making his reappearance in this one?
I agree with Bigwoopmag, and I HOPE it is a jab at trophies and achievements. The whole idea RUINS the fun of gaming. All games with an online feature have their own leaderboard, so if you like THAT game enough to play a lot you can work to be number 1 at it. With trophies we are supposed to blast trough as many games as possible without EVER enjoying them for the sake of being number one on a platform. It is utter bullshit and I hope that Sony removes the trophy system so people can go back to playing games they like, and enjoying them.
Fuck Trophies
i like trophies like that, because they make me play game again, again and again.
@BigWoopMagazine & darkangel269
You guys can’t blame me for making this assumption, but judging with how you guys are complaining about the Trophy system, I bet neither one of you have more than 1 platinum on your list.
Yes there are some people who just play games to build up on their level and rack in the platinums (Hannah Montana for example). But for other people (like myself) Trophies give the game a second life. My two biggest examples are Resistance 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4. I like FPS’s, but am I one those people to just play the game all hours of the day so I can be top 10 on the leaderboards? NO, I’ve beaten the game on NORMAL difficulty, seen the story, messed around the Co-Op for a little bit (it’s fun) and that was about it, I moved on to other games. But after seeing my brother Platinum it, I wanted to give it a go, So now I’ve beaten the game two more times, and trying to get the 10,000 kills trophy to finally Platinum this game (3,900kills to go), if it wasn’t for the trophies I wouldn’t be playing this like I am now. And I’m kicking myself in the pants now for having waited so long to shoot for the 10,000 kills trophy as the online community for Resistance 2 is limited this time around. As for Metal Gear Solid 4, I’ve beaten the game, tried out MGOnline for a bit and that was that, I sure hope they come around to bringing trophies to the game, and once they do, you can bet that I will be playing this game again just to claim some trophies if not platinum the game.
Some games don’t have much incentive to make you keep playing over and over. if it wasn’t for Trophies, I wouldn’t have put much effort as I did into such games like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Batman: Arkhum Asylum, inFamous (which I have platinum each now) and in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, I’ve beaten that game before the trophy patch came out, and sure enough I went right back to it to claim the trophies. Then my PS3 broke so I lost my save data for Uncharted and I went and started all over again from scratch just to get that 100%. I would have never done that if it wasn’t for trophies.
Some games do that the trophy thing overboard. Like they force you to put your entire life into it, like SOCOM: Confrontation and Demon’s Souls (I have to beat that game 4 times! to achieve platinum, and I don’t know if I will do that, but I will at least beat it once). While other games provide a respectable challenge like Street Fighter 4. I’m a huge street fighter fan and I had it at 80% percent for a long time, then I just knuckled down and tackled those tough Hard Trial Challenges. Getting 100% on that game was truly satisfying.
Don’t knock the Trophy system because it doesn’t do it for you, it’s obviously working for a lot of people because it’s still around. All in all the system is working for Sony, because it’s getting people who are addicted to the trophies to buy more games for the console, and more games bought for the PS3 = more revenue for Sony.
ive seen them for a while now… and i always assumed they were a throwback, since older games were harder than hell!
but as far as trophies being easy… a lot i mean a LOT of games have tons of easy trophies with 1+ really hard trophies…
examples:
Final Fantasy XIII: Get every weapon, this trophy is obtained though a money system for the most part, there are like only 10 things you get from treasure, and a few from missions… but for the most part you can obtain them all easily via money…
to give you an idea of how long this takes… i am 100% sure unless it changes in the US release, it will take you more time than ALL of story, perhaps even every mission, YES this 1 trophy could take more time than everything else in the game… why is that?
only 1 type of monster drops something actually worthwhile to sell, so you net 150,000 per one you get *i average 1 – 5 per drop* now that sounds like a lot but… Power/Defense smoke *it gives you full buffs which makes a LOT of missions/fights easier/doable…* those 2 items = 24,000… to get a item from level 1 to star is 56,000 or so to level, then 30,000 – 220,000 to get a upgrade mat, you need to do this for every single weapon in the game too… *8×6 = 48 + 6 tier 3 weapons needed* so to get one of those remaining tier 3 weapons… you got to get to tier 2, then its around 157,000 to get it to star… then a mat *it drops from the monster you farm* or you can buy for 2,000,000 *sells for a whole 10,000 =\* and that gets you 1/6 of the tier 3 weapons… and if you want to star it its like 2,000,000 more =\ and even then the most ive seen oone sell for is 235,000 -.-;; *you spend 6 million ish and get offered 235,000 which some weapons in the store that you cant find sell for more =\ at tier 1 level 1…*
however as the person above said, if you didnt want to perfectly beat every mission, or beat the last like 4… I/a lot of people would have quit ages ago!
Trophies are a defo winner. Like or dislike, they are selling games just for that fact alone which is good for every ps3 owner!
& Megaman 10 on ps3 is dangerous LOL atleast the Ninty NES had wired controllers LOLOL
A lot of hardcore gamers are going to achieve 100%. Especially if everyone keeps saying its so hard to get the trophies. Its just more reason for them to brag.
@Xael – I have 8 platinums – I think. maybe 7. I have a lot of games on the edge of platinum, with one trophy to go (Burnout Paradise, I need a webcam, Dead Space, was half way thru impossible mode when my hard drive bit the dust, Batman AA same thing, but on the last challenge room…etc, etc). I am a completionist on the games I love. I would have done everything in Uncharted, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, or whatever without the trophy system. At the same time, the trophy system was the only reason I played tomb raider as long as I did, cause lets face it, that game kinda sucked – but it was an easy platinum. I didn’t say I didn’t like the trophy system, I was making a simple statement about the trophies that result from companies being required to implement them. Some companies cop out with extremely easy ones, which waters the system down. Its not really an achievement to hit pause in Matt Hazard, but you get a trophy from it. Wow, that was hard. Its also really easy for a company to put in practically impossible trophies, which if you got them, well thats actually bragging rights. “Mr. Perfect” is going to be bragging rights, but at the same time, I don’t think it will be fun to try to earn it. That is work. Same thing with the resistance 2 trophy – I will never get 10,000 kills in that game. Its work, I don’t think the online is fun, so I don’t intend to get the platinum. However, on the games I really like to play, it is a great way to keep track of my personal progress (did I beat this game on hard yet? Are there still things I haven’t explored, experimented with, or earned?). I’m sorry if you get upset that I think its funny when they put out impossible trophies, and people get all fired up about it, but it is definitely funny. Trophies don’t get you anything except bragging rights, if that! If they aren’t difficult, they’re pointless! But this is over the top, and clearly a knock at people who only “play” to earn them… I pity the foo who tries to be “Mr. Perfect”.
Edit: if you’re really curious about my progress, my PSN ID is the same as here.
@BigWoopMagazine
Well like I said, I was only making an assumption based on your opinion of trophies. I have about the same number of platinums as you do. Yet our views on it are different over the kind of people who earn trophies.
I never got upset about your statement, I just find that your point of view to the people who get them, being as “Mr. Perfect” was directed offensively. I agree with you that trophies are more for bragging rights than anything. I’m the only one on my friends list to have 100% on Street Fighter 4 and I’m proud of that, because it was hard work. But I on the other hand am far from fitting the bill of wanting to be what you call “Mr. Perfect” if it wasn’t for trophies I would have never tried to finish those Hard Trials on Street Fighter 4, because you didn’t get anything other than a trophy for it. It’s not like Street Fighter Alpha 3 where you had to complete certain tasks on World Tour Mode to be able to Fight Guile, Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma, AND you had to beat them in order to unlock them, which was hard. in the age of DLC, they rather you pay for extra characters than unlock them, so what else is the point of accomplishing hard task if you don’t unlock anything? That’s where trophies come in.
I will re-iterate, trophies to me are about giving the game a second life. I could careless about perfecting the game, but if the requirements to platinum a game are to “Beat Gouken on the Hardest difficulty without getting any continues” or “Get 10,000 kills in ranked competitive mode” than I guess I have to be a little bit more than just average to achieve it now don’t I?
To paraphrase a quote from one of my favorite shows
“I loathe perfection, perfection leaves no room for the imagination, no room to grow. Perfection is a limit”
and I don’t want to be bound by limits.
@Xael,
your assumption proves your ignorance. I have 14 platinums, and am currently half way to level 15 (feel free to check my PSN ID to prove it … its the same as my nick name here). The point of my anger is that I got sucked into the trophy thing and realized that they have utterly ruined gaming for me. My experience with the PS3 (since trophies) has been 100% about getting the next trophy and taken away the experience of the games themselves.
Trophies DO NOT give a game a second life, they ruin gaming because instead of enjoying the game for what it is, we have been given reason to plow through games regardless of whether or not we even like them and put down games we have already gotten 100% on because we dont have time for it anymore. I am sick of the notion that I did not do as good as somebody else because I didnt bother to play through the game on each difficulty or allow myself to get stressed over a fucking gold that is just shy of impossible for the sake of a pat on the back.
Not to mention that my friends list is overloaded with people who are NOT my friends, but rather people who saw my name on some website and would rather cheat than actually earn the trophy.
Whats the fucking point when you are asking someone to lose on purpose just so you can get those extra wins for a trophy?
Then, if a game gets an update or extra content (without trophies) do we reload the game to enjoy the new stuff? no, sorry devs, you didnt give us a couple extra bronzes to make your time worth it to us. nevertheless here are a few choice quote from yourself I’d like to direct attention to.
“Trophies give the game a second life. … Metal Gear Solid 4″
…and yet, with the lack of trophies … nobody is playing those games.
“Some games don’t have much incentive to make you keep playing over and over. ”
Not all games are worth playing more than once, THATS why devs do that… so you will be interested in new games. if all you ever wanted to play was Pac-man nobody would need to make new games. In the case of games that DO have re-play-ability like the music games, Little Big Planet, or games with great online stuff like Uncharted 2 … the replay factor gets shut down when you are shelving it and chasing down your next platinum. Personally I loved the first Uncharted enough to play through it several times before trophies were even introduced. The glory for me was adding the difficulty and earning the bonuses the GAME had to offer, not the stupid trophies we wound up whoring ourselves out to.
“All in all the system is working for Sony, because it’s getting people who are addicted to the trophies to buy more games for the console
Bullshit, what it did was get more people to game share with disks and on the PSN. It upped the ratio of people renting from Blockbuster and gamefly. Are you REALLY so ignorant as to think that Hakoom (or people in the top 100) paid for all 100 something platinums he has? All trophies have done was give the whores more reason to STEAL from Sony.
“what else is the point of accomplishing hard task if you don’t unlock anything?”
Is it REALLY that hard for you to be proud of yourself without having to post it on a gamercard? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I come from a time in gaming when, if you told someone you beat a game or got a high score … all they had was your word.
“I could careless about perfecting the game”
Bullshit, if you are aiming to get the platinum you are doing exactly what you claim not to. If your goal is to enjoy the game for the game alone … you dont need fucking trophies for the added pat on the back. the glory of winning comes from winning not the plink noise and a popup in the corner of the screen.
“and I don’t want to be bound by limits.”
and yet you limit your gaming experience to whether or not the game has trophies.
Once again … Fuck Trophies
sorry, I was mistaken.
I have 16 platinums, 1419 trophies total and am 53% through level 14
…and I STILL say
Fuck Trophies
@darkangel269
Must suck to realize you’ve wasted your life on something you hate. Loser
Also, that’s your opinion. It’s not fact. I was this whole time expressing my opinion, based on my experience. You are only but a small number of people who don’t agree with the system.
Well luckily for the rest of us, you don’t work for Sony or have any say in what they do. If it were up to you, Sony would be dead last. Instead of catching up at an accelerated rate that it is now.
The Trophy system was heavily requested by the millions. Almost everything that Sony implements into their Firmware updates in terms of features (if it’s not legally grabbed by the balls by Microsoft) is heavily requested by the fans. There’s always going to be that 1-5% who wants to complain about shit even after they get it.
Here’s a news flash for you though. You’re a part of that 1-5% that Sony doesn’t give a damn about. Go play Wii or something.
i still play games like i always have!? Trophies are a cool bonus but i wont stress myself trying to 100% every game just for the platinum!? If you choose to play diff because of trophies then its your own problem not sonys or anyone elses LOL!?! Why add people u dont know if it bothers you? Some games iv gone back to are replayed because i feel like playing them again, so new trophies are a BONUS take it or leave it Its a choice (get em all or dont) Tropies show you what people are like as gamers really!!! If you let this bother you then DONT LOOK AT THEM simple!?
Since you want to break down what I said, to prove me wrong about my own opinion of experience, like some moron who doesn’t know understand the differences between opinions and facts and experiences, I’ll go ahead and try to help you understand why I said what I said.
“Bullshit, what it did was get more people to game share with disks and on the PSN. It upped the ratio of people renting from Blockbuster and gamefly.”
I have a friend on my list who has over 30 platinums and he owns all his games. So that’s why I said that, Sony made money of that guy. (Based of my own experience)
“Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I come from a time in gaming when, if you told someone you beat a game or got a high score … all they had was your word.”
I come from that time too, but if unless your living under a rock, that times doesn’t exist anymore. People want prove! and Leaderboards and Trophies provide that prove.
“If your goal is to enjoy the game for the game alone … you dont need fucking trophies for the added pat on the back”
That’s your opinion! That’s such an obvious opinion that I find it hillarious that you even stated it so confidently. I play games because I know I will enjoy it, but if completing it 100% is do-able, then I’m going to do it! It has NOTHING to do with perfecting it! Like I said I’ve completed Street Fighter 4 at 100%, did I perfect the game? I wouldn’t say so. I’m only a G1-C in Championship Online. That’s far from being “perfect”. I’m 100% Tekken 6, yet I’ve only got a 68% Win/Loose Ratio online, that’s far from perfecting the game, when there are players who are 90% Win/Loose. Completing your game 100% is not perfecting your game. For the record I will say that is my opinion, but you guys view on what Perfection really is, is sooo mixed up, you confuse it’s definition so easily.
“if all you ever wanted to play was Pac-man nobody would need to make new games”
What the hell? Yeah that’s what Atari wanted you to do to, and they made millions because of it. Everyone was playing pac-man and Atari was taking daily trips to the bank. The Developers WANT you to play their games over and over again. What kind of a flawed statement was that??? Do you know anything about business. Why do you think Wii Sports Resort is selling millions? Because all the casual gamers was playing the regular Wii Sports! That’s what the Developers want, if you play they original product so much, once they churn out a sequel, they will gather up by the masses to buy it! Because it’s still fresh in their minds. The Developers never worry about the Hardcore gamer, because they know we have a faithful following to their last project, what they want is to keep the casual gamer refreshed with their product. I can only wonder how many casual people who have played inFamous, have already forgotten about it now. You think Sony is going to make 100% of the costumers who bought inFamous back on the sequel? No! it never works like that. There will always be a number of people who will buy inFamous 2 and never have played the first one. Just like there will be people who bought inFamous 1 and won’t end up buying the second one.
“and yet you limit your gaming experience to whether or not the game has trophies.”
LOL now this one was a good laugh. You start of your little comment with calling me ignorant for making an assumption. Yet you end your comment by making an assumption of your own! I still play my classic PS2 games and they don’t have trophies. I didn’t buy God of War Collection and that has Trophies. I still play games that don’t have trophies. So yeah, guess what buddy, you’re IGNORANT! lol
well…Congratulations, you’ve just proved that you are exactly what you hate.
Impossible to get all of those unless your a really good gamer I mean a trophy for beating the game without taking damage? Still I get Mega Man 10 as i have yet to beat Mega Man 9 as its way too hard.
