Medal Of Honor Delivers Twice The Fun

01/27/2010 Written by Zak Islam

Medal of Honor is shaping up to be one hell of a title, bound to deliver gamers breathtaking graphics and entertaining classic MOH gameplay, but this could all come from the fact that it’s got two engines installed in the game.

EA have confirmed via a tweet that Medal Of Honor’s single player will be powered by Unreal Engine 3.

As many of you may have read, we are using a heavily-modified Unreal 3 Engine for Medal of Honor’s single-player campaign

But that’s not all, there will be two engines in the game, and the second is for multiplayer.

I guess the cat’s out of the bag. Medal of Honor’s multiplayer will be using the Frostbite engine.

The official MOH twitter feed also confirmed:

Just to clarify, all of the footage in our trailer is Unreal Engine 3…not Frostbite

The shooter is slated for a Fall 2010 release.

Sounds like they’ve put a good deal of time and effort into the single player campaign if they’re using an entirely different engine for it. Cool! If it’s got an excellent single player campaign, of sufficient length, I may have to pick this up. And I don’t even care for war-themed shooters. But this one looks pretty great so far.

I hope multi won’t suck with another engine for it.

why Frostbite for the multiplayer? If I’m not mistaken that is the engine used for the Battlefield Bad Company games to create environment destruction. Are they going to have environment destruction in multiplayer but not single player?? That would be strange. I guess I feel the Frostbite engine is strong enough that I would prefer they use it for both single player and multiplayer and forget about the Unreal engine.

you never know though the way the new MOH is made it might need it that way as in the gameplay might be differant and involve you doing certain things that would look better with envioment structure where as the main game might need unreal. I think this sounds good though to be honest no matter how good this game is Call of duty fanboys will still go on about how this sucks and is a modern warfare clone.

You have to think about how the single player is you playing through a story and levels they designed, and they might not want you to destroy all the buildings to get past an area, and it could be easier to make cutscenes or script AI or something in unreal. Also they didn’t want to make 2 battlefield games, I wouldn’t be surprised if the unreal engine was used just to set it apart. Though I do totally agree the forstbite engine whoops unreal engine
