Loss Per PS3 Decreasing Quickly

02/06/2010 Written by Dan Massi

The loss per PS3 has dropped significantly, according to the Wall Street Journal. Just recently (December), it was reported that Sony was losing $37 per unit sold. Now, the number has dropped to something a little less gut wrenching.

Sony has now reduced the amount it loses on each PS3 to $18, the Wall Street Journal confirmed yesterday. This means that the losses have been cut in half since December 2009. The company expects to turn a profit on the PS3 in 2011.

You’re either a damn moron or you’re 12 years old. Like Microsoft, Sony is a BUSINESS. Businesses exist to make MONEY off the consumer(which is YOU).

If you think there were any other alterior motives behind Sony being in the videogame industry, please shoot yourself in the face.

I love this site, but Jesus Christ some of you need to think before you post.

I don’t believe he said anything that even resembled saying that Sony was in the video game business for anything other to make money. In fact, I believe he was stating that he thought Microsoft was ripping people off for having an inferior product. Given their record of console failures, he has a valid point that could be argued. I know, personally, that is way I’ve stuck with Sony since 1997.

Feel free to throw yourself into the “please shoot yourself in the face” category.

  5. I just dont like people jumping all over people “for being stupid” when they actually sound more stupid than the person they are attacking. Immature? Maybe.

  6. The Slim has just ushered in all kinds of good things for Sony. Losing only $18 per console means they only need to sell one game to gain back that money and then some.

  7. this is great news for Sony

You either lack the ability to comprehend what you read(he is clearly a fanboy) or you’re no better than him. I’d bet on the latter.

I like sony, they exsist to make video games out of rainbows. I made a picture that says “me and Jack tretton” from Timewarp age 18 and a half. That’s what i would be saying if I was a fanboy like some people here.

I like the PS3 more but for one moment think of this, why would Jack Tretton say the 360 was inferior. What is he’s job? C.E.O of sony and who can tell me what that means? He’s in charge of microsoft’s rival.

Now why would a guy in charge of a rival company insult the product of the company it’s against? A mystery isn’t it! Well duh it’s the same f**king reason the pope dosen’t go around talking about how great islam is!

Dude quit getting your panties in a bunch! and I mean NOW! It’s obvious you have a 360, so will you just shut the fuck up about trying to make yourself seem more “aware” in the matter of how businesses are. Everyone knows they’re both businesses and in the end their aim is more revenue and PS3vsXBOX360 was just expressing his opinion about favoring Sony’s tactics better than that of Microsoft’s. Don’t get mad at him because your one of those idiots who’s 360 broke and now your trying to lash out on him for it but discreetly by pointing out the obvious.

“You’re either a damn moron or you’re 12 years old. Like Microsoft, Sony is a BUSINESS. Businesses exist to make MONEY off the consumer(which is YOU).”

Damn loser…. what did you just learn that yesterday or something and you are damn proud of it so you want to share it with the world? Spare us your “enlightening” ways oh “wise one”

wow okay mate, My comment is only my opinion, Microsoft is money and Sony devler better hardware system what is worth to pay for, Xbox360 has huge failer rates and that not good, This is not 2007 its 2010 and Xbox libary games is not that exciting now, Look at PS3 games all i can say is WOW amazing games, it amazing how PSN is still free at the moment while Sony lost some of money on each console, XBL and PSN is no diffrent between then, Only reason why Microsoft charge XBL cause they like to make extra money, NOW this my OPINION of THOUGHT,
I own PS3 and XBOX360, only reason i still kept XBOX360 BECAUSE i love Project Gotham Racing 4, and yet i can get Halo and Gears of war on PC, so that way less chance of RROD

so @Nosteratu King next time you jerk off front of your XBOX360, Please Try not to get your cum jamed XBox360 disc tray, Dont provoke me next time you dumbass 360fanboy

    hello …

SONY, being japanese knows how to do business, losing a little (or even big) in the beginning, but bringing something really innovative & winning in the long run.

yes like all businesses, the intention is to make money, but for success, it’s important to attract people with a full fledge product with low failure rate & ensure fidelity on their part.

SONY won that war some times ago with most of its hardware, PS3 owners today are mostly PS2 & PS1 owners back then, but another new thing some are just movie buffs or following the trend of Hi-Defs, so i think SONY is innovative & deserve to have a great sale of some of its hardware.

I went for the PS3 because of God of War (so it’s a fanbase matter too) & happy to discover a lot more.

MS still needs to learn of past mistakes, so does SONY, but i’m sure the next one will have same effect, big machine, high price, solid & secure & wonderful.

I don’t care about SONY the ‘company’, i care about its capacity of bringing home what i really want & SONY the ‘brand’, so i say thank you to those working to make this company what it is.

    cheers!

as blunt as he put it though Nosferatu King is right though he was rude in suggesting that some of us still think of companies as our friend. Microsoft being here is partly a good thing as much as it is a bad thing, if there were no competition for the PS3 then Sony would proberly charge for the PSN and do what MS is doing at the moment.

Also for the last remaining wii fanboys, just concede defeat your not winning and most of you like me switched anyway. The only problem I see with the 360 was how it was rushed onto the gaming market and the positive reactions from that outweigh the negatives.

  15. Max Murray says:

^ that or an additional DS3 or headset.

  16. @Timewarp

True, that microsoft was rush everthing and lead to failed, Wii is lead the to sale at the moment, To me PS3 and XBOX360 does do simler thing, also you right about PSN is free because XBOX360, I dont think xbox360 will rule out PS3 just because they have more owners and more money. Every gamers want best game as possible on console and that would be PS3, in 2007 XBOX360 had everything better games and more, But Sony making it way up, Now 2010 XBOX360 games not something new yet and not exciting either, it same damn thing and it boring, Wii is completly differnt gaming, XBOX360 is waste of time, space and money, i wish it had never exsit, That is only my opinion of thought, or mabey i glad XBOX360 is release so that way Sony watch and learn how to not failed like xbox360 does, oh we will wait to see what happen next. Ha ha only stupid Xboxfanboy thinks Xbox360 is a better system.
