Sorry RPG fans, if you’re looking at Alpha Protocol being your Mass Effect fix for PS3, you’ll have to wait a little longer. SEGA has officially revealed that the game has been delayed once again.
Originally slated for October 2009, the game was delayed to spring 2010. However, it’s been delayed once again to summer 2010. It’s not an incredibly long wait, but it’s disappointing, nonetheless. Matthew Hickman, Assistant Producer at Sega, explained why the title was delayed.
“We had a few reasons for doing it. One: We wanted to position it better, give it a lot of time. The main reason: We really wanted to polish the game up, make it everything Obsidian planned it to be, and give the consumer a very polished game. We added a couple of other things. Tweaks in lighting here and there, added the inventory comparison screen so you can compare what you’re buying to what you have equipped. Just bringing the whole quality level up.”

Translation: We have no fucking idea what we’re doing.
Nobody takes this long to make a game. NOBODY! Heck I am Alive has a brand new developer and they’ve manged to put an April 2010 release. I reckon we should be allowed to suggest ideas for this game like for instance what kind of weapons we want, I want a chainsaw pole. Every game should have a chainsaw pole.
Every game that dosen’t have a chainsaw pole is not a real game.
no one cares about these delays. there’s plenty of quality games to play in the mean time.
[...] Alpha Protocol Delayed Yet Again [...]
@ Timewarp…
ROFLMFAO!!!
chainsaw pole…priceless. All I can see is a person running around with a really long pole, and a chainsaw tied to the end of it…lol. very effective against zombies.
one more reason why developers need to quit announcing release dates to begin with…tell us when it will come out when you actually know it will be ready! morons! It’s a good thing there are plenty of other games coming out.
i am fine with this delay.. there are plenty of titles to keep us busy and more polish is never a bad thing
Ha! Is anyone really surprised? The main reason for this delay is God of War III, NO ONE would DARE release a game during the God of War III timeframe or else it will spell out FAIL.
I think what these developers should be saying as reason to their delays is something like this
” We take special care of our projects as if it were a part of our family, we prep it and teach it everything it needs to know to go out there and interact with the world, appeal to as many people as it can and have legs to survive on it’s own. Although sometimes there are forces in the outside world that can prevent that from happening. As you all know Kratos is lurking around he’s not someone to take lightly, if we were to set our baby out onto the world around the same time Kratos is let loose, then we here at our development studios have not trained our project to fend off such a beast and we are confident that Kratos will get his hands on our project slam it’s head on the wall, while leaving it disoriented Kratos will then get behind it and start to force our projects head in a direction not meant to be turned, our project might try to put up a small fight as it jabs a small elbow into Kratos firm grip, temporally making him loosen his grip, yet only to have Kratos hammer fist the back of our projects skull into the ground, breaking it’s nose and then retrying to tear our projects head from it’s body, using less effort than before Kratos will have successfully shredded the head from it’s body and adding it to his inventory. In other words, we’re scared! and we want to our project to be as far away from Kratos as possible.”
Aaaaahhhh!!! I have friends at Obsidian and trust me, the game was ready to be shipped this past summer. This is just SEGA shuffling it around.
@Xael
Um, theres a couple of small indie titles coming out near God of War called Final Fantasy XIII and Bad Company 2. You may have heard off them.
Of course I’ve heard of them but I’m certainly not buying those games. Final Fantasy XIII is a scaled down version of what it should have been, and Bad Company 2 looks like a Modern Warfare 2 clone with the use of vehicles. You can expect the review of Bad Company 2 to have Modern Warfare comparisons on every website you look at. The only Final Fantasy worth getting now is Versus XIII because at least it’s still an exclusive so it should have everything that it’s intended to have without being scaled down to be “equal” on lesser consoles. I know for a fact after the dust settles SquareEnix will re-release Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 with all the content that was removed in the first place before they actually move on to Final Fantasy Versus XIII. In the meanwhile I’ll just continue to stick with Demon’s Souls for my RPG fixing until that time comes. To me these multiplatform games don’t matter anymore and especially in terms of sales, the PS3 install base is growing and if people only had money to buy only one of those 3 games, everyone will be buying God of War III instead. Just don’t be surprised when the game performs better than those two combined in sales. (for PS3)
@Xael
id normally agree with you but the scaled down comment on FF13 seams Bias/Fanboyish . They removed some content but to say its because of the 360 version is rather dumb.
“The only Final Fantasy worth getting now is Versus XIII because at least it’s still an exclusive”
that always the excuse (some) PS3 users say when they want to make it seam like a games not as good because its multi-platform. I love my PS3 and its my only system but come man! give FF13 a fucking break… dont revert to “its not as good because the other system has it” excuse.. enjoy it and move on.
even if the game is done and this is SEGA shuffling i am fine with that. They are trying to find a good time to release it where it does not get lost among the hordes of games releasing early this year
And with all of this generation of consoles using the IBM PPC 3.2ghz CPU as their core, it makes no difference to developers, since the PS3 and 360 share some of the same components from Nvidia Graphics. It makes it easier to create multi-platform games.
And as to what was stated that the PS3 has more power but that power is a bit more difficult to harness in some games when your primary development platform is basically a gaming PC (X-box 360). And then you try to “port” that to the power house that is the PS3 that is the problem. When you have a supercomputer in a game console and you are using nearly 6year old Mac PC hardware as your game console platform with some software in between to make it equal to the PS3 then you can understand the porting problem.
And with Dev’s wanting to make more money to keep making games they are forced to go on the other hardware. And it takes time to learn how to do that.
But this delay is not the Dev’s but the publishers saying that they want to be away from the PS3′s biggest title of this year, which makes financial sense. Look at what Batman did last year when they delayed it until August. If the game is good then the release delay should not hurt it. And when you consider that World Economics are making it harder to purchase games, this might be the biggest reason for the delay.
@Xael
im not disagreeing with you but dont base an opinion on a few reviewers..I know people who PERSONALLY HAVE FF13 and it opens up after a few hours and YES ive seen it myself.. im not a fan of destructoid but there
10 things i love about final fantasy 13 from Dale North REALLY needs to be read by you:
http://www.destructoid.com/ten-things-i-loved-about-final-fantasy-xiii-162457.phtml
he also has 10 things i didnt like about final final fantasy 13:
http://www.destructoid.com/ten-things-i-didn-t-love-about-final-fantasy-xiii-162684.phtml
Dale North is the ONLY writer i have never had a negative opinion about because his reviews are always covered AND he deals with solving stereo types of games people online create..
based on my own personal experience with FF13 hes 100% on the mark..
i agree with you on the whole getting shafted for game ports and the whole being equal statements .. if i remember correct 3rd parties always did that… the only thing i can think of that had game edits was Nintendo and Mortal Kombat having blood/fatalities and Sega Genesis version getting a complete game.
@Xael
im not SquareEnix . i cant answer your question as to why they removed the content. It doesnt seam logical and its hard to pinpoint everything on the 360.
My point is………. dont pass up an awesome game because of some bozos half review. Lately, SquarEnix does nothing but complain about EVERYTHING…. there like the fucking waaaaambulance every time i read a new story about them.
@shadowjin
I’ll be checking out those links, I don’t know man, something about the whole ordeal just got me fed up with Multiplatform games, I mean Sony’s first party line up almost covers every genre. You want your hack and slash (God of War), RPG (Demon’s Souls, 3D Dot Game Heroes), FPS (Killzone, Resistance, MAG) Action/Adventure (Uncharted, Rachet and Clank) Racing Sim (Gran Turismo) Racing arcade (ModNation Racers) Innovative games (LBP, Heavy Rain). They had fighting game (Tekken) but that went multiplatform. I think Sony should get on publishing another fighting game, I’ll be on that for sure!
I got 16 PS3 games and 11 of them are First Party Exclusive
Aww god dammit. I’m calling it now, this game will either:
A) Never come out.
or
B) Be a flop in terms of sales and reviews.
@Xael
Are you sure you know what first party means?
@KwietStorm
lol why are you desperately trying to get my attention? Give it up
Why are you desperately trying to flatter yourself? I just asked a simple question.
@KwietStorm
if you read his response you could tell he know about games… the average gamer knows the meaning of first party and 3rd party. I think you failed to bring up a point by hinting at whatever you wanted to state.
