Moore Believes Arc Will Deliver “Different Experience than Wii”

02/08/2010 Written by Zak Islam

EA Sports president Peter Moore has given his thoughts on the codenamed ‘Arc’ PlayStation motion controller, saying that Sony’s invention will be “a different experience” from the Nintendo Wii.

Speaking in an interview conducted by CVG, the EA Sports boss talks about Sony’s motion controller.

I’ve seen the technology working. I think it’s going to be a great complement to what’s out there. Sony will put their collective technology and marketing might behind it.

It’s a different experience than Wii and we’re watching it with great interest. As you might imagine, we’re working on stuff – in particular on what sports can bring to it.

One thing we’ve learnt with the Wii is that we can afford [to spend time on building bespoke games]. The two that stand out in terms of authentic sports motion on Wii are golf and tennis. If you can capture that motion, that brings the game to life in a very unique way. We’re looking at how we bring that sports credibility and authenticity to life with Sony’s new platform.

Recently, THQ CEO Brian Farrel all but confirmed the ‘Arc’ name for the motion controller.

it’s the same device, how can it be any differant? Because one of them is for a console named after piss and the other’s a ping pong on a remote control. I didn’t think the higher up’s of sony would be big headed but it seems so far for 2010 one of them has insulted the 360 basically saying the PS3 is better and now after one has stated the arc is going to be better then the wiimote,

is sony hosting a compeition for the worker who can be more ignorant then Bobby Kotick?

    @Timewarp
I can’t see anywhere in that statement where Sony say that the Arc is better than the Wiimote! Actually, if you read it more closely (i.e. actually look at the words and not just the picture of the nice japanese man with a controller in his hand), you will find that it’s the boss of EA Sports saying that it’s a “different experience” than the Wii.

Kids today eh? I don’t know!

  3. Supachief Says:

Its very much so different. First off all it works with a camara!!! if you researched the product you would know that. But like most children you just have to criticize everything and jump to conclusions. Please be more informed when posting comments on certain subjects.

With all of the 1st and 2nd parties that Sony has, I promise you there will be some really fun and interesting Arc titles. They certainly have my interest..

it’s always classic to read nonsensical rants and it never fails to deliver a laugh. Yes I’m talking about your comment this time Timewarp. It is different because for one, the PS3 motion controls are 1:1 which the Wii isn’t. That’s the only statement I will make about the differences, which are many than just the one I mentioned. Do your research next time!

  6. Hongo Says:

The PS3 motion controller is more advanced and the color tracking will work a lot better than the Wii’s IR, I thought that was pretty much common tech sense when you think about it. Plus, the ball on top allows for more freedom where with the Wii, you sometimes have to point like you are painting with a yardstick.

The only thing i can see which is the same as a wiimote is the fact you hold it in one hand LOLOL
It’ll rock & even if i dont like it my kids will…. 100% win

  8. xST-ANGERx Says:

Tbh im not really interested in it. Motion sensor thingamajigs just don’t turn me on or float my boat. Call me a traditionalist if you will?!

But Timewarp, in future, make sure you know what you’re saying when you reply to posts, or indeed read them properly first. You just leave yourself open to abuse otherwise! No hard feelings? lol

@Peter Moore – “We’re working on stuff” …. such as?? I keep hearing people say “ohh yeah this is good stuff, its gonna be great, we have lots of ideas, etc etc”. What ideas? Tell me the ideas! I might be interested if I actually hear about a game thats being designed for it. Until I hear about a game, its just another peripheral that I don’t need.

I want a disc golf game that would be amazing.

I am excited for Tiger Woods Golf. I actually enjoyed it on the Wii and imagine the ARC to bring a more realistic approach to the whole experience. The Wiimote was to glitchy and being square didn’t really FEEL real.
Though golf is my peak interest, I am also very curious how Sony is going to take this and make it great. I am also excited to see how Xbox gets their asses handed to them with their great new technology … whats it called? Project PS2 ? LOL
