Dante’s Inferno Demo Takes Staggering Amount of Trips to Hell

02/09/2010 Written by The Great Thomasio

During EA’s Third Quarter Investor Call today, COO of EA, John Schappert revealed that the Demo for Visceral Game’s Dante’s Inferno had been downloaded an unbelievable amount of times and the figure will surprise you.

How many times has it been downloaded you ask? How about OVER 3 Million times since the demo was released back in December of last year. If you remember correctly, the Dead Space demo was also downloaded 3 million times, to go on to sell ‘only’ 1.5 million copies combined. With God of War III hitting in just over a month, will Dante’s Inferno share the same fate?

Dante’s Inferno hits today. Will you be paying for a $60 ticket to Hell?

  1. Definitely going to….rent this one. Gamefly baby! Then we’ll see if I want to buy it.

I’m renting Dante’s Inferno. Most games like this are only worth one play through even if they are really good. I’m buying God of War III just because it’s God of War and needs to be in my collection. I can almost guarantee that Dante’s Inferno won’t sell 3 million copies just because not everyone who plays the demo will enjoy it. The only thing I’m concerned about is Dante’s Inferno outselling God of War III. If it does it won’t be because it’s better, it will be because it’s multi-platform and the 360 still has a much larger user base than the PS3. I can see a lot of 360 owners buying Dante just because they don’t have any other options for this style of game.

  3. I would be surprised if it sold 1mil copies. Game is garbage

I would be surprised if it didn’t sell1 mill copies eventually.

Game is not garbage. Many criticize the game for being a GoW ripoff. Regardless of whether or not that is true, does not make it “garbage”. This game will be superior to many, many other games that you won’t call garbage just because it does not resemble GoW.

    Haters hating just to hate.

Hell NO! I will not be buying or renting this game. It will be forgetable once God of War drops

This game is cool. A little plain, but God of War is just as plain! The combat is repetitive but always fun.
    Glad I bought it.

    hello ..

already pre-ordered Deaths Edition .. yes i’m going to hell before going to mount Olympus.

the game looks & feel like God of War with a different story & two paths … so this is what makes it really good.

If i give God of War III a 10 Stars on my hype level, i give this one a 9.5 LOL

    see you in hell …

    cheers!

I bought the game, will finish it before GOW3 comes out and likely trade the game in tbh. I am enjoying playing it though.

The demo didn’t impress me at all. Maybe if the reviews are fantastic I might reconsider, as it looks like a game that depends a lot on story and character…but that’s just an optimistic guess on my part. Otherwise I’ll wait until it hits the bargain bin.

not to criticize the writer but… if you played the Dante’s Inferno demo I believe you wouldn’t want to buy the game. I believe those 3 Million people were turned off to buy the game based on the demo. While with Dead Space, I love that demo. Although it was short, the end of the demo makes up for it, and obviously doubles the awesomeness.

  11. Max Murray says:

yeah, I was one of the 3 mill, but I’m definitely not dropping 60 on it, and probably not even 20. I still can’t believe how poorly dead space sold, considering how good it was.

    @giese095

    agreed 100%.
couldn’t have said it better myself.

  13. Great game, finished first playthrough now will be doing it again using HOLY methods!
