LittleBigPlanet Getting The Sequel Treament

02/13/2010 Written by Dan Massi

In 2008, gamers and non-gamers alike flocked to the game stores when LittleBigPlanet released. And who can blame them? The title featured something entirely new on consoles; the ability to create your own levels, and to go online and play others. Now that this year will mark 2 years since the game was released, what’s next for LittleBigPlanet? Well, according to this a rumor, a sequel.

The Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM), has apparently listed in their rumor section that LittleBigPlanet is to get a “full sequel”. Also, the magazine has claimed that E3 will see Killzone 3, Resistance 3, and inFamous 2. We can only dream for now.

man E3 is going to be HUGE for Sony. Haters and fans alike will flock on over to Sony articles to see what their going to announce.

By the way I’m sooooo buying the LBP sequel

  2. shadowjin says:

how can they make a squeal to a community game?

  3. SPD55 says:

Listen to the community and add features that would make it seem like a sequel…

  4. KwietStorm says:

How? You turn off the servers for the first game.

First of all, I thought we just had an article the other day that said the creators of the game weren’t planning on creating a sequel because of the community.

Second, I think if they are making a sequel everyone is looking at it all wrong. They wouldn’t have to make a sequel that would replace the original. I would think it would be easy enough to make it possible so the second game could feed off of the original community as well. I’m thinking something similar to how Rock Band 2 could still play Rock Band 1 songs. They could keep the same community alive and everyone with the first game could still exchange levels with each other. The only catch would probably be that those with the first game couldn’t play levels created by someone with the sequel nor could they play online together unless they were playing levels compatible with the first game. But overall, I don’t think this would hurt the community at all.

I enjoyed the game when it first came out, but after it stopped focusing of community and started focusing on DLC it got stupid. It’s like the ultimate cash-milk. Characters, content, themes, home content, avatars and now it’s even spreading to the PSP. If there is a way to separate people from their cash on the PSN then LBP will be there.

KwietStorm could be right. It would be sad but killing the servers usually means the next game sells (much like the RRoD seems to sell more 360s….don’t ask me why).

  7. SteelFox says:

there goes kwietStorm trolling the articles…

  8. all lbp needs is more dlc not a sequel… water was a big thing…

  9. SpeCtR says:

if there was a sequel…id buy it

  10. KwietStorm says:

SteelFox, yea you got me confused with someone else.

  11. I’d be interested in a sequel. The first was good but some improvements could be made as with any game.

  12. Meghterb says:

LBP2 = day one purchase, it’s that simple.

  13. maybe if there was a long story line and maps from lbp 1 could be uploaded on lbp 2 id buy it.

Ithink there’s a lot of life left in LBP and to make a sequel now, right after the psp version, and the water patch hit is a big mistake. Maybe some more features could be added and THAT’s the announcement, but a whole new game seems crazy to me.
