Sonic 4 May Come on One Disc

02/13/2010 Written by Dan Massi

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 surprised many when it was announced. Not because it was a direct sequel to Sonic 3, nor that it was in 2D, but because it was a downloadable episodic title. Now though, it seems that the game will eventually hit retail, according to the SEGA website.

Sonic fans have tried to find every little thing imaginable, in association with Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Most recently, they have found two listings for the title. One is listed as Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4: Episode 1, on page 1 of Sonic titles. However, on page 5, the last item listed is Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4. This, however, has no release, and no platform listed. Many think that this could be a retail release for the game, because there is no episode tagline. Others believe that it is simply the rumored iPhone platform.

David Oxford, senior news editor on Kombo.com, gave his opinion, saying that SEGA could be aiming for a retail release for children. With many parents believing in the online dangers over game consoles, it’s safe to assume that they would instead go out and buy a retail copy.

There’s also the possibility that this listing could be entirely a mistake, and was put up by accident. What are your opinions on this? Post below in the comments section!

  1. I would personally prefer this game on one disc rather than download. I have almost all the major Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Mega Drive Japanese so I’d love to have the entire game on a disc

It’s not likely to cost much to begin with, but less as a download. If they charge more for a disc, they can keep it.

  3. Xael says:

I want this game to come out now!

KwietStorm – the disc is worth more because it has resale value if you want to sell it used…it’s hard to resell digital media. I also like the fact that you can rent disc-based games, whereas PSN has yet to provide a game rental service.

I would prefer a disc version too just because of the resale value. It may be a game I want to keep forever, but maybe not. I would probably rent it through Gamefly first to see if it is as amazing as the original Sonic games, then if I want to keep it forever I could or if I didn’t I could return it. I think it’s strange that PSN or Gamefly haven’t moved into digitally renting games yet. They can do it for movies by providing a limited time license, why not games?? They could give you two weeks to play the game and if you like it you can pay extra to get a permanent license, or let it expire.

listings for games are very unlikely to be a mistake. Most companies are anal and meticulous about their procedures, and although mistakes are made, listing those products where it ocunts are not usually acts of accident.

and god damnit I can NOT wait for some new sonic.
