Yoshinori Kitase Praises PlayStation 3

02/14/2010 Written by Zak Islam

The producer of RPG epic Final Fantasy XIII, Yoshinori Kitase, has praised the PlayStation 3 hardware which he claims “helped envision” the RPG.

In an interview with the PS Blog, the producer spoke about how the PS3 helped envision FFXIII.

The PS3 is definitely a spectacular machine and the team was really able to realize its visions for the characters and graphics, and at the same time, were able to have big onscreen battles going on. The PS3 hardware was something that really helped envision the game.

When asked about future DLC:

In regard to the rumored cut content, we feel it was taken out of context. There are a lot of ideas that are brought to the table, and then the team takes the best ideas out of those, and the final product is polished that way. There was content that were ‘ideas’ that didn’t make the final content, but the team isn’t looking to release that as downloadable content.

Final Fantasy XIII has a Western release of March 9, 2010.

  1. The PS3 is finally getting the acknowledgment it deserves.

What? How could the PS3 be the inspiration or whatever for the game when the game wasn’t built for it? All this ONLY POSSIBLE ON A PLAYSTATION stuff is driving me nuts and this is probably the worst example yet, with the possible exception of that Ghostbusters game.

I wish these people would stop sucking up to us.

The game was actually built for the PS3; remember that the game is a PS3 exclusive in Japan, the game’s true and only home, and Asia, two of FF’s most important markets. The actual people who made this game live in Japan, not the West. The 360 version is nothing more than an inferior port that has poor lossy audio/video. The game therefore was originally created, designed and molded for the PS3; most likely, they utilized the PS3′s expansive SKU while developing the game.

FFXIII was designed first with the ps3 in mind but they eventually toned it down a little bit so that it could be almost equal with the 360 counterpart version. The 360 version is not just a port from ps3.They build the code anew for the 360 making some changes to the Crystal tools engine.

FF’s are most popular in the East market where it was released only on ps3 but it’s also popular in the West in which right now with commercials and other means of advertising by Microsoft it passes to people like it’s an “exclusive”…this is misinforming for people aren’t aware of the game being actually multiplatform in the West.

I understand that Sony is to busy and spend their money for the marketing campaign of exclusive titles like Heavy Rain and GoW III which are near to their release dates. But they should not ignore a very much anticipated game like FFXIII which contributed in ps3 sales from the beggining (it was supposed to be exclusive on the ps3 and i know many people like myself who bought a ps3 primarily for this and MGS4)

Bottom line Sony should show through a little bit of advertising to the West that FFXIII is “home” with ps3 since FF’s were from Psone days and not ignore it like that just because they are more concerned about their exclusive titles.FFXIII will probably have most total sales on the ps3 worldwide (since it was released exclusively in Japan)but i question how much more it can sell in the West without proper advertising….and eventualy SE previously announced “exclusive” titles may become multiplatform (like FFVersus XIII)or even make exclusives for the other console only.Sony needs to see the bigger picture and beyond their exclusives and step up on this.

The thing is, the West is not really an important market for Japanese developers or publishers, and nowhere near as much as Japan or Asia; this is evidenced by the fact that very few Japanese games, barring perhaps a few (first party titles mostly), are released at the same time in both Japan and the West. Several Japanese games have even not been released in the West and will probably never be, as it is simply not important. It’s just extra money for them; they don’t really care if it sells in the West, but if it does, great, here’s some bonus points minna. Sort of like winning friendlies after you win a World Cup. Hardly significant.

Also, the 360 port of FFXIII is indeed an inferior port. Only the PS3 version has lossless audio and lossless video cutscenes, which will never be matched by the 360. Also, regarding your claim about the game being supposedly “toned down” for the 360, these are nothing but rumours, most likely began by 360 fanboys or overeager blogs. If the 360 port is only being made for the Western market, clearly this was not a part of the game’s original development. Even if someone makes a 360 port for a foreign market, that’s not going to change the fact that in the game’s one and only true home Final Fantasy is something that can only be designed and played for the PlayStation; that’s why it’s always been released only for the PlayStation (in Japan, and only that matters). FFXIII has anyway been available in Japan for over half a year and will always be an exclusive PS3 title in Japan as well as the rest of Asia, so hey, no one there, least of all the developers, gives a shit about the 360 or Western gamers. Fact.

Also, since the game has already been available in Japan for half a year, it’s already old, so there’s no point in getting excited over a game that’s long been available. True FF fans should have imported the game when it first released and played it then. Seeing people getting excited over a game’s overseas release that’s already long since been released always makes me chortle.

what are you talking about that was released in Japan half a year ago?are we talking about the same game? i don’t think so.I think you must confuse it with Final Fantasy Dissidia for the Psp or something
FFXIII was released in Japan 2 months ago.(in December)

Also FF’s were not originaly on Playstation they were on Nintendo and then after FFVII and on they moved to Playstation (after 7 consecutive titles i quess they can be called home)but it’s roots are with Nintendo so if it doesn’t get the appropriate treatment from Sony it will eventualy swift exclusively with Microsoft and if Sony lose something that important(because it has become since psone days)i can see many people not interested any more with Sony and Sony will not hold them with exclusives like GoW,Resistance,Killzone and Uncharted. As i said there were a lot of people,a huge FF and MGS fanbase that choose ps3 from the very beginning over 360 primarily for FFXIII and MGS4
