Valve Will Probably Develop for PS3, Eventually

02/21/2010 Written by Dan Massi

PS3 fans have a bone to pick with Valve. Not only did the company insult the PS3 as a whole, but at one point even refused to develope for the console. With the growing succes of the PS3 Slim and blockbuster titles like Uncharted 2, the PS3 has become difficult for Gabe Newell to ignore. The Half-Life developer seems to be changing tune now, with this recent news.

Left 4 Dead writer Chet Faliszek has expressed his opinion on the Valve/PS3 opinion, saying, “Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way,” explains the Left 4 Dead writer. “But we’ll look at it, and I’m sure down the road we’ll do it.”

“Down the road” certainly doesn’t sound very promising. How many more millions of PS3′s need to fly off store shelves before Valve decides its worthy of developing for?

Gabe newell is a fat moron. I mean come on, how did no one expect him to say something stupid. He is borderline retarded. Anyone remember the Half life 2 debacle where he got the source code stolen for the game by not only having the source on a computer connected to the internet, but getting highjacked by a virus from Outlook express no less. Then it was found out his freaking password was gnewell.

He is definitely not the brightest bulb in the rock garden. It is only because of his staff that the games they make are anywhere decent. If he were the one programming these games we would have some horrible games out there.

  2. megs1120 says:

Do we really want them to? From everything I’ve heard, their games are terrible on consoles. Besides, we PC gamers need to have SOME exclusives, you know?

  3. No thank you.PS3 doesn’t need half ass ports from Valve.Ps3 is for skillful developers

  4. giese095 says:

well I couldn’t care less if they ever develop for the PS3. The only thing I have enjoyed from them is Left 4 Dead 2 which I have on my computer.

“Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way” – which basically means, right now we still feel it’s too hard to develop for the PS3 and we don’t like working hard so we’re going to continue to take the easy way out and only develop for Microsoft based systems like the PC and 360. I believe he said something last year that sounded pretty much like that anyway: “The PS3 is too hard to develop for… we’re a bunch of lazy morons…” I might be paraphrasing.

  5. Timewarp says:

with the exception of left for dead 2 (which was okish at best) valve are terriable at making games, why would anyone want to bring that to the PS3? You can polish a turd but in the end your polishing a turd.

The only reason for wanting L4D2 on the PS3 would be to fill the void reisdent evil made when they stop putting zombies in their games.

  6. I don’t think the majority of gamers care about any Valve’s games.Left 4 dead is mediocre to good.Better let real developers develop for the ps3.

  7. Joshstork says:

    Come on guys….

I personally would love it, i love the half-life games and if they can transist them to consoles themselves, rather than a shitty port.

  8. TheHater says:

meh, valves can go suck it.

  9. wtGp says:

who gives a crap about Valve. If they find it difficult to work on the ps3 then they can go screw around somewhere else

  10. Foxy007 says:

Valves can shove their games up their ass. I would never buy a ps3 valve game. Sony and ps3 dont need you.

  11. bogrob says:

They don’t need to wast there time. There games are week. I would never buy or play anything they develop

  12. SPD55 says:

@dmdragon: There is no need to use the “Retarded” comment. Because it only demeans those that work hard to be a part of society. As far as Valve goes I have not had any of their games but if they are to lazy to learn how to work on a real computer game platform then they can stay with the Lazy Money from M$. Consider that M$ stole the chip supply from Apple to get the 360 to market so they deserve the lazy games that are on the platform… The 360 is only a PowerMac G5 with Intel Zenon Code to try to compete with the PS3 and it does it cheaply…

  13. infekt says:

I doubt they are waiting for sale to increase in the US because worldwide growth is firmly on the Playstation`s side. I think these guys don`t understand the PS3 architecture and don`t have the necessary expertise (skills set) to develop for such unique but powerful hardware. And to screen these facts they keep putting the PS3 and its vibrant community down. To most people, it just makes Value looks like douche bags. I wonder if they will every grow out of it. And after all this time, do we really need an ex-AAA developer now that we have stellar developers that create original titles for the black beast and understands it? Not really. Too little, too late, I`m afraid.

  14. SPD55 says:

Well if you look at his bio on wikipedia he is a M$ Millionaire and went out and built up Valve as a streaming service since he was not smart enough to develop quality games since he dropped out of college. Even the great Bill Gates has trouble getting code correct, just look at the Bob interface for Windows 3.x, he let his wife develop for windows…

  15. Timewarp says:

the great bill gates? Don’t you mean the extremely lucky bill gates? He only got the job as C.E.O because he was the only guy who wanted to have the job, I bet the other 20 people are all kicking themself.

But back on topic only if valve put in some effort this time and don’t just reley on EA Games, I want a proper valve game, though that’s never going to happen. Vavle can’t even use the 360 to it’s full potential yet so what makes Chet think their going to any differant with the PS3?

  16. This is the best headline probably ever! Maybe.

  17. giese095 says:

Timewarp – you do realize that Bill Gates created Microsoft to begin with don’t you?? He was writing computer programs when he was 12 or something and came up with the beginning stages of what we see as operating systems now. I don’t know his history exactly but I know he didn’t just luckily land into the CEO seat.

  18. soldiercell says:

Don’t think we are missing any good games from these guys!

  19. Meghterb says:

I never tried their game, but I heard the PS3 port of the game was bad. I hope we see a PS3 game developed by them in the near future.

  20. @giese095

Actually if you watch the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley, I believe you will see that Bill Gates bought his first operating system off of another guy and called it his own.

I agree with the first post. Made me laugh.

  21. sobrguy says:

Valve and Activision can have a marathon blowing each other for all i care. i’d rather eat a flying rancid albino rat turd than give either one of them my money. so… Valve has sorta, kinda been thinking that they might maybe some day in the distant future probably wanna get around to possibility learning how to eventually program games that could run well on the PS3 using their own magnificent team of world class engineers who for some reason can’t wrap their giant brains around something not Micro$oft?… maybe? i’ve been hearing this on and off for about a year. still not holding my breath. not then. not now. not ever. my all time favorite Gabe quote. “Their (Sony’s) box has been showing decent numbers recently. We might want to look into that.” not word for word, but pretty close. PlayStation users are suppose to care about that? why?

  22. Richy2k9 says:

    hello …

i’m not against valve or MS. I’m for SONY & innovation. Even if the PS3 is my choice as a console, the PC remains the best gaming machine if you have the money for it.

yet the PC is also the worst platform because not really supported, mainly due to high level of piracy & cheats.

Valve did make some good games, but never exceptional enough for me to get them on PC.

I already said so in other posts & on other sites … for developers & editors: never bash a system for you never know if one day you would have to bite your own tongue.

the PS3 have great developers, we don’t need bad ports from any others …

if valve wants to do PS3 games, please do learn to do it right & maybe if they come up with a new IP, mostly exclusive to the PS3 or PC/PS3 .. will have a better effect on PS3 owners. but it has to be more than good, it must be extraordinary.

    cheers!

  23. JackC8 says:

Kind of late in the current console generation to be just starting to think about maybe learning how to make a game on the PS3. Fail.

  24. Timewarp says:

    @giese

actually he didn’t, he made most of the decisions which made microsoft the giant it is today but actually he founded MS along with 20 other people and they got together and decided that Bill would be the best person to fill the role of C.E.O a decision I will admit was a good one.

Valve remainds me of a litle kid trying to get out of doing he’s homework. I’ll do it later….maybe if I can be bothered.

  25. so what happened to them being PS3 nazi’s in that article a while back about how Valve refused to ever make anything for PS3 cause the programing was to difficult and they weren’t interested in spending the time and effort to make quality show in their game?

Dont get me wrong I’d love to see some half life or L4D, Im just shocked they pulled a total 180 on that.

“No thank you.PS3 doesn’t need half ass ports from Valve.Ps3 is for skillful developers”

As fanboyish as that may sound, it really seems to be the case :)
Gabe Newell, meet Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Square Enix, THQ, 2K, EA etcccccc.

  27. huH1678 says:

If they haven’t already they might aswell not bother since clearly they don’t know how to work with different hardware beside PC not that any of their recent games interest me at all.

  28. Can we jam an apple in Gabe Newell’s mouth and have a pig roast?
