When Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was first announced, Sonic fans everywhere were likely at least intrigued at the idea of a true 2D sequel to Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles. But soon rumors were flying that the game would be developed by developer Dimps with little if no input from the famous Sonic Team. It looks like those fears may be unfounded.

Sonic 4 team includes the level designer from this game.
In a post spotted on the official SEGA forum, the Assistant Community Manager known as “RubyEclipse” let the following be known:
Yes, Dimps is working on the game. But there’s actually more to it than just that: at the same time, we also have members of Sonic Team, including the original senior level designer from Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the SEGA Genesis working alongside them. It is most definitely a partnership, and the result of this teamwork is something many of us are excited for.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles had impressive levels, so this is a good sign for people who may be worried about this latest incarnation of Sonic.

I want to see more gameplay footage, this game has to be near completion now, It’s a 2D sidescroller for crying out loud. It’s not that hard to make in this day and age. C’mon SEGA show us something
