MAG Reloads for Update 1.03

02/25/2010 Written by The Great Thomasio

Once MAG was released, Zipper Interactive was quick to point out that MAG wasn’t just a game, it was designed to be a massive multiplayer platform. Like any good platform, it needs updates and changes to stay relevant. Zipper Interactive has released details concerning the latest update and it’s the biggest and most gameplay-changing update to date.

Set to hit TODAY, Update 1.03 plans on re-balancing some of the major issues and faults with the game. Don’t believe me? Just check out the ‘massive’ list of changes below, courtesy of the Official MAG blog.

Gameplay:

  • Weapon and Gear swapping has been improved by 500 milliseconds.
  • Fixed bug in SVER’s Aralkum Mechanical Acquisition map and Absheron Refinery Domination map that allowed players to defuse a charge planted on a repaired gate or door.
  • Added a “solid tone” sound effect near the end of a charge’s beeping detonation timer so that players know when the charge can no longer be defused and that they should vacate the area.
  • “Medium Improved” Armor now works as intended with the speed properties of Medium Armor and a defensive value greater than Medium, but less than Heavy Armor.
  • Changed resuscitated player’s camera orientation to match the last camera direction used while incapacitated instead of the pre-harm camera.
  • Players no longer lose XP if a teammate is killed by an objective explosion caused by a charge they planted
  • Respec Point requirements in Barracks have been changed from 3K, 5K, 10K, 17K, 26K, and 26K-Repeat to 1K, 2K, 3K, and 3K-Repeat.
  • Lowered the amount of damage necessary to kill an incapacitated enemy.
  • All fired projectiles (RPGs, Turret Rockets) have been given a steadier aim.
  • Mines that haven’t been triggered are no longer removed from the map when the dead player that deploys them respawns unless that player changes their Loadout (note: The maximum number of mines you can plant cannot exceed the number you initially spawn with).
  • Fixed bug that prevented “fully-resuscitated” players with more than 100 health points from receiving their full HP.
  • Fixed bug that caused players to take unnecessary damage from both friendly and enemy vehicles when touching them.
  • Players no longer lose leadership points after entering “Veteran Mode.”

Weapons:

  • “From the hip” firing for Light and Medium machine guns have stronger recoil and are less accurate when moving.
  • Tuned weapon damage for all three factions.
  • Modified all short-ranged weapons (pistols, PDWs, shotguns, SMGs) so that they’re less effective at long distances.
  • Made Battle Rifles more effective.
  • Reduced accuracy bonus for using iron sights and reflex sights so that players can no longer snipe with weapons that aren’t intended to do so.
  • Increased damage values for all rockets to make them more effective (ex: three rockets can now destroy a DE turret).
  • Shooting through thin materials (fences, tents, etc.) will be more consistent.
  • Increased spread on shotguns.
  • Improved animations for rocket launchers.

Graphics:

  • Fixed bug that caused the recoil animation to end early or stop animating if a player was firing their weapon for a long period of time.
  • Changed detonation time on smoke and poison gas grenades to prevent them from exploding in mid-air to eliminate unintended FX issues.
  • Added realistic fogging effects to sky-domes.

Technical:

  • Fixed most conditions that caused players to be caught in a “respawn loop” which kept restarting the respawn queue when the countdown clock reached 0.
  • Changed in-game conditions to make it less likely to experience in-game freezes.
  • Improved client-side stability.

As you can see, Zipper Interactive have listened to fan & review feedback and have given their 256-player fragfest some major updates. For those of you who might have lost interest in the Shadow War, will this update recruit you out of retirement or is there still more Zipper could improve upon? Let us know in the comments below.

all welcome improvements…what I really want though is an update to allow us to spawn next to a squad member

  2. tau_caste says:

i agree giese095, it definately needs to or atleast a spawn with the squad leader (providing they are still alive), and i think orders need to be more vocalized, i quite often miss them and its not because im not paying attention, its because im shooting or something and its only top corner, needs to be bigger and have some sort of loud ping.

    just my 2 cents!

  3. I think that would make the game have to be totally rebalanced…because they planned teams so spawn in waves and attack together, not to appear in the battlefield and just sweep the defense.

This update is gonna be really good for MAG, I’m glad they’re supporting this game well so far.

  4. dbigfeet says:

that one hell of a update

  5. FiftyQuid says:

Excellent support on this game. I’m impressed.

  6. Xael says:

damn two updates in less than 2 weeks. I would hate buying this game months later, when you first boot it up you’ll be waiting over an hour downloading the most up to date and all previous updates!

  7. Thats an awesome update, alot of things I really am looking forward to like the accuracy reduction while scoped in so people cant sit back and snipe with an AK47 or an LMG. I love that they reduced the time it takes to physically swap gear or weapons.

This is why zipper rocks, they support their product and its not something they do once in a blue moon. They keep reading our feedback and ideas and find ways to integrate them into the game and show the community they really do read and care about our thoughts for their game.

So lets think about this, MAG has been out for a month and already tons of fixes and updates the community has requested. MW2 took how many months to send out the first patch? How long did the javelin non-sense go on before that got fixed? Last I played before I sold it for MAG, the care package glitch and infinite XP glitch were still around. Never ran into any glitch remotely that lame in MAG, and have already seen more support for the community and game itself from zipper than IW has shown. Also the MAG website is a really fun place to look around and get tips from. MW’s I never really even ventured to.

xael, that often happens with games regardless…someone seems a little impatient lol…. i think the balances are good…some of the things they incorporated are things ive cussed about while trying to do something in mag….like the shotty distance being toooooo high… and losing xp if a stuipid teammate is standing next to the door or bunker that you armed…shooting through fences and things… mines going away if you die….they fulfilled some of fmy requests so im happy… i wll be lvl 60 s.v.e.r tonight :)

  9. Pretty sure the source post says it came out this morning (Thursday) not Friday. Haven’t logged in yet, but it should be live.

  10. SpeCtR says:

yess it should come out today….at 4 a.m. servers were down which would mean its already out :)

  11. yeah this patch is out 2/25/10 so today not friday, which is even better news! Might wanna update the story to avoid further confusion.

  12. Thanks for the correction, Silence, SpeCtr, and Sisters!

  13. SpeCtR says:

TODAY (love the update)… they need to fix falling out of the helicopter with no parachute…thats my favorite :)

  14. Natiej85 says:

Well, I guess I’m gonna have to fire it up and see if it changes anything in my approach to playing this awesome title.
