Lack of Metro 2033 PS3 was “Business Decision”

02/26/2010 Written by Dan Massi

4A Games first title, Metro 2033, is currently an Xbox 360 console exclusive. While the game is also for PC, it’s mysteriously absent from PS3. The publisher of the game, THQ, has come out and revealed why the game isn’t coming to our favorite console.

Huw Beynon of THQ has made known the reason why Metro 2033 is not coming to PS3. Apparently, it’s a “business decision, though Beynon doesn’t understand why it shouldn’t work.

“That’s probably more of a business decision, and one that I wasn’t part of when I was at THQ. The studio architect of the 4A engine did a lot of the initial work on the PS3 first, just to get to grips with the architecture. A lot of the early prototypes you saw were of the PC version… You’d probably have to ask someone up in senior THQ finance to find out why we didn’t greenlight a PS3 version at the time, but there’s no reason why the engine wouldn’t work on PS3.”

Beynon also broke the news that future 4A Games titles will have the PS3 architecture plugged in. Metro 2033 hits stores March 16th in the US, and March 19th in Europe.

Has anyone heard of this game? I haven’t seen anything about it until today. Curious to know what the deal is on it.

  2. @ Graey

I was thinking the same thing .

    Peace,

  3. This was originally a PS3 and PC game. They scrapped the PS3 version and brought it to the Xbox 360 instead. I think the bussiness decision was if we make it 360 exclusive then all the xbots will eat it up. I don’t see this selling well. Maybe 1 mil lifetime and 200k first week

  4. It looks…OK. I’ve watched a few videos. It will come to the PS3, not to worry.

  6. I’ve never heard about this game till just now. What it is?

it’s another post-apocalyptic title…from what I have seen of the PC version it actually looks like it could be pretty good. As far as this “business decision” goes though, I have a feeling it has more to do with Microsoft…follow the money trail and the answers will be revealed…

I was confused at first cause I mixed this up with Nintendo’s Metroid. I’m not really into shooters so this probably isn’t for me if it comes to ps3

I haven’t heard a single thing about this game either if i’m honest! I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out decidedly average tho, ans M$ bought exclusivity rights just for the sake of it.

Well M$, you can buy up all the “exclusives” that you like, because i’m sure that NONE of them will be any good due to the crappy old-tech DVD’s that you use with insufficient storage space. Theres not 1 exclusive game on 360 aside from Forza 3 (due to me getting eternaly pissed off and bored of GT5) that i would ever choose over ANY PS3 exclusive!

So please M$, keep buying up these rubbish games, if only to make my PS3 look better if you can, because right now that’s what you’re doing.

  11. PS3 fanboys loooooooove talking out of their asses.

Game looks decent; if it gets reviewed well, I’ll probably pick it up.
