Yes folks, that is correct, what you are reading is no joke. New Line Productions along with QuanticDream, Inc. and David DeGruttola a.k.a. David Cage, has filed a short form copyright assignment for none other than a big screen adaptation of Heavy Rain.
The copyright document was created way back on April 23rd, 2007 which is quite a ways back, but still follows Heavy Rain’s 2006 E3 debut.
For the more “spec oriented” among us, here is the full filing:

Is it possible that we might bear witness to a Heavy Rain movie? Further still, would a big screen adaptation of Heavy Rain manage to have the same psychological an emotional affect that the game has had on so many of us gamers? The talent is definitely there, and with the Heavy Rain voice actors looking spot on identical to their video game counterparts, we could be in for one heck of a treat. Only time will tell.
What are your thoughts on a big screen Heavy Rain adaptation? Let us know in the comments!

I just finished this game. WOW!!!!
I am going to go play it again
It would be an awful movie, because the it is an awful (and cliche) story.
so what your saying onionpaper is that Hollywood can never make another pschological thriller murder mystery because it would automatically be awful since it is cliche?? I hope you enjoy being in the extreme minority who didn’t enjoy Heavy Rain’s story…but then again you are probably the type to call me a conformist just because I did enjoy it and don’t mind “cliche” movie stories. By the way almost every movie script is a cliche today whether it be action, drama, whatever so I guess you must never go to the movies. Every idea has been done so all there is left to do is make different variations of the same story with different characters…
That being said I don’t know if I want a movie based on Heavy Rain just because I would probably be disappointed by certain changes they made, etc. Adaptations almost never work out as well as you want them to…I say they keep Heavy Rain as a video game only and if they have more ideas for the franchise they put it into a new game, or DLC, or whatever.
wouldnt be surprising since the voice actors actually acted out most of if not all the scenes in the game
I actually really wanted to like Heavy Rain, else I wouldn’t have spent $60 on it.
There’s a difference between cliche and variation on the same story. Namely, cliche isn’t variation.
I think Heavy Rain could work as an actual movie. I mean the game is basically an interactive movie anyway.
I’m loving the story in the game so far and with a bit of work on the script and if done properly then it could work quite well as an actual movie.
It could work as a movie, but I don’t think it’ll be a big success. Videogames usually fail at theaters, regardless of it being an interactive drama.
Best news of the week or month. Guess we just have to wait and see what happens. It sounds great
I wonder would they keep it CG or go the route of real actors with a little CG thrown in for grittiness. Hm if they did do a movie I think they would have to actually tell maybe a different story. Their can be so much life in the HR universe, but since we’ve all played the game or know about it to some extent I think they would have to make another story after or before it. So that we wouldn’t already know who the killer was…
I don’t know perhaps I’m wrong but I would say if they did that it would be better if it was a straight to DVD CG movie…with a story fleshed out after the game, as I don’t think many would buy the movie having played the game and knowing what will happen.
Thoughts anyone?
OH…Heavy Rain or Kratos for President 2012
If Heavy Rain did appear as a movie, it wouldn’t be based on the game because everyone will know who the origami killer is by then! lol
It would just be a different story with the same title to help pull in the punters and nothing more. I have totally ZERO interest in a HR film, regardless of how brilliant the game/interactive movie is!
But then again, if the actress who plays Maddison Paige is in the movie and has a naked shower scene, i’ll deffo have a ticket to see it! CG character or not, she is mega fit! lol
Wouldn’t a HR movie not work, since the game was all about choices…?
unless it’s in a theater at a science center or theme park that have an interactive component, this will just turn out to be a poor rehash.
hahaha he said it would be ab awful and cliche movie….yet do u see the movies that are already coming out…anythings better then that…cinema is getting more and more predictable… i think a heavy rain movie would be great seeing as it feels like your almost watching a movie already so to sit back and not have to worry bout pressing l1,r1,x,o at any given moment and actually watch the storyline and cinema would be great!
