King of Fighters XIII Returns to Defend Its Title

02/28/2010 Written by Thomas Williams

SNK Playmore’s King of Fighters series is one of the longest running and most popular fighting games around. KOF XII hit last year to mediocre reviews from both the fans and critics, but that hasn’t stopped SNK Playmore from announcing that King of Fighters XIII is returning this year to defend its crown.

Besides the initial announcement of the title, little information has been revealed. SNK Playmore did mention that the title would be running on Taito’s X2 Arcade board, which powered fellow fighters Street Fighter IV and Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. Both of those games rocked the fighting scene and certainly made 2009 the comeback year of the fighting game, even if King of Fighters XII didn’t help the situation. Even though the only version talked about was the Arcade version, I think it’s safe to assume we will see a PS3 version down the road.

More details will be unleashed on March 25 in Akihabara, Japan.

  3. BOOO! KOFXII was horrible! Hopefully they will improve it and not just release it as a cash in on the once popular series.

  4. @Bacon and Shadowjin. Wow! I own the game and I have no clue how I forgot ‘Trigger’ in the title! Going to fix this..now!! Thanks for pointing that out.

@Matthew. Not to worry, I read your review..heck, it’s one of the first backlinks! So is your BlazBlue: CT Review!

I think I’m the most “on the fence and unable to decide whether to buy BlazBlue or not” gamer out there :) )

It looks grand but I played Guilty Gear XX AC for a while and the fighting system just didn’t seem all that complex. On the fence, please advise :)
