Plain Clothed “Security” Storms Infinity Ward HQ [UPDATE]

03/02/2010 Written by Mike Hartnett

Something is amiss at the Infinity Ward offices in Encino, California. A few short hours ago plain clothed security personnel, described as bouncers, paid an unannounced visit outside the Infinity Ward offices. When questioned, these individuals refused to reveal their identity and why there were there.

According to G4′s Patrick Klepek, the source close to Infinity Ward has reported things have been “tense” with Activision recently. Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West met this morning with Activision, but haven’t been seen since.

The source close to Infinity Ward provided these few details…

“Everyone is on edge,” said my source.

The mood around the Infinity Ward offices is currently described as “freaked out” and “confused.”

“We just wanna make our games,” said my source.

We will be sure to keep you updated as this story unfolds.

[UPDATE 1]

GameInformer has reported on the mounting speculation on NeoGAF. A screen shot of FaceBook has surfaced alleging that Jason West has been terminated. At the time of publishing this image has not been verified.

[UPDATE 2]

Kotaku is reporting that Jason West’s LinkedIn profile indicates he is no longer working at Infinity Ward as of March 2010. Evidently this was not a mutually agreed upon exit.

  1. Medal of Honor Fiasco 2.0? These guys bailed on EA when they interfered too much, I really hope they do the same to Activision so they can go make a good game.

  2. Robotron says:

    Looks like a PR stunt just in time for Bad Company 2′s release date.

  3. nikrel says:

    @Robotron

    That is what I think too.

  4. Robotron says:

    I guess I was wrong….sucks because I hate seeing people get fired that shouldn’t be.
    Activision has released a statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission….it’s legit.
    I know Bobby wants to pump out a COD game every 6-12 months now. Maybe IW said “no”.

  5. it seems to be all but verified…robert bowling has this to say

    Robert Bowling I should also say, while I appreciate all the calls, tweets, messages and hearing my ringtone a lot. They’re in vain – as I have no info.

    i dont really understand why they acted so shady about entering the building…i thought it was some kind of hoax at first…….but its actually a real situation…eh..i dont really care

  6. lemmy78 says:

    BC2 Friday woooooooOOOOOOO
    MW SUX The End……………….

  7. @lemmy78
    Dude…this isn’t about MW…this is about somebody loosing their job! Jesus…is all you think about the demise of MW?

  8. JackC8 says:

    It would be kind of humorous if Kotick fired the people in charge of Activision’s only successful franchise. Freakin’ egomaniac.

    Whatever. It’s probably just a publicity stunt.

  9. soldiercell says:

    A hoax fo sure

  10. Timewarp says:

    This is out of order. If we’re lucky infinity ward will realise they shouldn’t have to take crap like this anymore and cancell their contract with Activision though if they do they should prepare for hell, I’m almost certain if they do decide to leave Activision then Bobby The Devil Kotick will make them regret it.

    Wouldn’t it be ironic if Jason West got a job working for EA Games and then started working with the team making the new Medal Of Honour along with the other guy (if he’s also been fired), I’d buy the game then just to piss of Kotick for making the biggest dick move of the year.

  11. shadowjin says:

    @Timewarp

    you cant just cancel a contract and walk out….. if its that simple thousands of people would do that .

  12. shadowjin says:

    Activision owns IW. They bought the company in 2003, right around the time the first Call of Duty title launched and about a year after IW itself was formed. So no, they can’t sever ties with Activision — they’d need Activision to release them/spin them off, ala Microsoft with Bungie.

  13. regarding the comments about Battlefield Bad Company 2….isn’t that a EA game? So why would Activision pull a publicity stunt?

  14. beta55 says:

    Lemmy = Troll.

    Honestly, k, you think MW2 sucks, good for you, but apparently everybody else seems to be enjoying it so stop pushing your flawed mentality into our heads about what a good game is when you probably haven’t even seen what the Battlefield series used to be before they started making these shitty spin-offs.

  15. Whoever thought that the IW situation was a PR stunt are absolutely stupid. How can you read the article and go, hey I’m thinking that Bad Company 2 is better now. So many moronic people. You can go to kotaku, gamespot, ign, or giantbomb and see that all this stuff is actually going down.

  16. shadowjin says:

    @skulliking123

    there under the impression that because BBC2 has gotten rave reviews that the PR stunt would take away the spot light (as in thinking about MW2 instead of BBC2)……

    what they FAIL to see, is that 2 top employees got fired (the main creators).. proving that its not some “stunt”.

    @mike

    thats how ive been feeling for awhile, like the idiot last night that commented that he scolded his kid/beat them and sent them to bed.. All because he thought they broke his PS3. (during the outage) and the guy who thinks that SONY is stealth monitoring PS3s.
