Treyarch Gets Green Light For Next Call of Duty Title

03/03/2010 Written by Mike Hartnett

Well, it looks like we have an official announcement regarding which team will head development for the next Call of Duty game for this upcoming Fall season, despite the storm of chaos over the past week. As most have probably speculated, the company that will develop the next Call of Duty title (the seventh in the series) will be none other than Treyarch. Additionally, despite the fact that most people were already aware, Infinity Ward is still working on the first downloadable map pack for Modern Warfare 2.

In a release to investors, the Activision/Blizzard team states:

The company expects to release a new Call of Duty game from Treyarch this fall. In addition, Infinity Ward is in development on the first two downloadable map packs for Modern Warfare(R) 2 for release in 2010.

There hasn’t been any word yet on exactly what time period this next Call of Duty will be set it, or what war will be featured for that matter, but let’s just hope that Treyarch can manage to step their game up, as they’re essentially always outdone by their Infinity Ward counterparts. C’mon guys, let’s see something epic!

    I don’t know if I would really be interested in a game based on either the Vietnam or Korean War…I don’t know if I could get into a game knowing that even if I won some battles in the end I can never actually win the war…

    Have you ever played brothers in arms hells highway? Of course the entire war wasn’t lost but the mission you are on (Operation market garden) is a failure, but I doubt treyarch can make a game as good as hells highway.

    Hey maybe we get a game against Al-Queda on line. We could make the rules if one sides wins the most matches, then that will determine winner in the “WAR on TERROR”!!!

    AHHHHH but Politcal Correctness won’t even allow games based on Iraq War yet…

    SPANISH CIVIL WAR PLEASE

  8. Xael says:

    Why not the American Civil War? or the Revolutionary War?

  9. megs1120 says:

    @Xael

    There were no automatic weapons during the Revolution or War of 1812, but there were a few quick-firing weapons during the Civil War, which makes it a much more viable option from a gameplay standpoint. Stationary Gatling guns and hand-held revolvers and repeaters were around by the 1860s and those could work well as complements to the more traditional rifles, smoothbores and swords in use at the time.
