Ever since the PlayStation Network Video Store went live back in July of 2008 , the service has played host to the hottest new movie releases and TV shows, as well as a vast back-catalog of previously released movies and more. Sony has just announced via press release that the PlayStation 3 will be the first home console to feature movies available for purchase from all 6 major movie studios.
SCEA announced today:
20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will offer high definition (HD) movies for purchase and rental on the PlayStation®Network video delivery service in the United States. PlayStation Network is the first to offer high definition movies for purchase from all of the major movie studios, further establishing PlayStation®3 (PS3®) as the preeminent home entertainment platform for this year’s most popular and critically acclaimed high definition movies.
Peter Dille, senior vice president, marketing and PlayStation Network proudly said:
“Securing high definition content from these studios is another significant milestone further validating PlayStation Network as a complete entertainment network in the home. PlayStation Network is the first and only service to deliver high definition home entertainment from all six major studios, directly to consumers for download,”
“PlayStation Network continues to offer the most comprehensive catalogue of HD movies to PlayStation Network members that realize the wide-ranging entertainment power of the PS3 system.”

hello …
poor other countries too
… i don’t have this service in the little paradise of Mauritius! …
how much do cost a movie on these store !?
cheers!
Why don’t they redesign the store, i mean the store is a small dot in the middle of the screen why dont they use the entire screen, if i would redesign it then i would use tabs/filters ontop of the screen
@skypeon- what? Its fullsized on my screen…
@Richy – I haven’t checked in a while, but theres varying prices on the movies. its usually $3-4 for a rental (24 hours), and ~$15-16 to own. This is USD. Rental and ownership prices vary according to video quality, most are offered in SD and HD, with some of the HD giving an option of 720p or 1080p…. I think. I also think its kinda a rip – I could pay the same prices for a disc, and be able to take it to my friend’s places to watch it. Buying it on the network means its localized to my system, and I don’t want to lug my whole ps3 around to watch it somewhere else. This whole digital download idea is fine for a few items now and then, but most of the time that issue alone prevents me from buying this way.
Wow, this is really a none story. The pic even is from the press conference in which they announced the video store was opening way back at like E3 of like 2008. I saw the title and was like coo new stuff on PSN Store. Went there to check it out and notice the usual aditions for Tuesday with the exception of the addition of a lot more HD versions of movies that weren’t present previously and that’s about it.
more options are always nice.
totally agree bigwhoop
