Sony Announces PhyreEngine for PSP

03/09/2010 Written by Anthony Severino

PhyreEngine for the PlayStation 3 is an advanced graphics rendering engine used by developers on a number of Blu-Ray disc based titles as well as downloadable games from the PlayStation Store. Now Sony is bringing PhyreEngine to the PSP to “make use of the strengths of the platform”.

Sony has just revealed PhyreEngine for the PSP today at GDC. Teiji Yutaka, Senior Vice President, Technology Platform of SCEI had this to say about this latest development:

“We’re very happy to see the continued popularity of PhyreEngine with the global game developer community,”

“PhyreEngine for PSP was developed in response to requests from the game developer community, and we hope that the release of the PSP version demonstrates our commitment and support for game developers on all our platforms.”

PhryeEngine for the PSP and a game demo “Tunnel Vision” will be on display all week at the SCE booth at GDC. We’ll keep you updated with any further information coming from GDC.

NO amazing games? Flower along was amazing. Not to mention Flow and Critter Crunch, now if my psp had some game played as fluidly and smooth I’d be happy. And hopfully help with the alias and choppy framerates on some PSP titles. Don’t get me wrong even with all this graphics that pretty much between PS1 and PS2, it’s still puts that crap sandwich dSi to bed.

I think the point is that Sony is offering a free dev kit to those who want to develop for the PSP,
hopefully that will spur some new development for the hardware.

  8. Max Murray says:

its more about the increased opportunities. Man all i need is a damn portable version of critter crunch to burn up even more of my life…

So for now all we can do is wait on it and see the end results as no other info has come out of this and whether it’s any good whatsoever. The main thing to remember though, is at least the PSP, which is sometimes overlooked despite the rather large userbase, is that steps are always being taken to improve it. Source [...]
