Bad Company 2 Offers Free “Mapathy” Care Package

03/12/2010 Written by Dan Massi

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was just released last week, making gamers drop their copies of MW2 to get in on the latest Battlefield action. Infinity Ward was quite quick to retaliate, as parent company Activision announced the first DLC pack – and all eyes turned to them. However, EA has shot out a retaliation of it’s own, announcing DLC for it’s own blockbuster shooter, Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

With a blog title aimed directly at Modern Warfare 2, “How to avoid ‘mapathy’ without paying!”, EA announced the latest DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Recently revealed was a Modern Warfare 2 DLC marketing campaign referred to as “Mapathy”, with an exclusive one month deal with Microsoft and Xbox 360. EA seems to be competing head-on with Infinity Ward, as this new DLC will be free for owners of Bad Company 2. The DLC will hit the exact same day as the Xbox 360 DLC for Modern Warfare, and considering it’s free, it’s hard to say what will make a bigger impact. However, for the Bad Company 2 DLC, you’ll need to have the VIP code (similar to the Mass Effect 2 Cerberus Network) in order to download the free downloadable content.

Arica Harbor Conquest mode – US Command launches a break through action directly at the Russian base. Collateral damage is of no consequence. Capture and secure tactical positions in Conquest Mode across the vast Arica Harbor map.

Laguna Presa Rush mode – The valley and surrounding mountains possess a strategic value in the battle for South America, and an infantry assault supported by light armor vehicles is likely by both armies as US forces defend the nearby Dam.

Unlike the Modern Warfare 2 DLC, the PS3 version of this downloadable content will hit the same day as its Xbox 360 counterpart – March 30th. Will you be using your VIP access to get the new DLC? Post below and share!

So far BFBC2 has been far more enjoyable than MW2 and I am very glad to see new maps so soon. Keep it up Dice and EA!

    I am ordering BFBC2 today….

  6. Bad Company 2 is the best shooter out there right now. I haven’t enjoyed a shooter this much in quite some time.

Interesting how Activision and EA have switched spots. EA now seems to actually care about game development, quality and listening to the gamer….and Activision is the antichrist (hey they both start with “A” and are ten letters long).
EA’s most recent comment at the GDC put me into shock. For those who missed it(EA exec John Schappert):

“If you value creative freedom you don’t go work for a big publisher, or maybe you do?”

“Maybe you don’t pick publisher that likes to litigate that much or look at their legal team as a revenue generating team,” said Schappert, clearly referring to the recently filed lawsuit against the Modern Warfare developer.

“There are two sides to every story and I’m not passing judgment,” he continued. “I’m just disappointed on a couple of fronts – I’m disappointed because Jason [West] and Vince [Zampella] on are two great guys, they’ve done great things and I think they’re two of the best creative leaders in our space.

They’re going to be spending their future dealing with litigation and lawyers rather than crafting the next great experience. I don’t think that’s a win for them, I don’t think it’s a win for our industry, I think it’s a disappointment.

I hope that they find a way to continue to make games and focus on that during this period,” Schappert concluded.

    To hell with BFBC2…

With finals coming up next week, it is no time to get addicted to games.. damn BFBC2 for making it so =/

Spent 4 hours maxing out Assault yesterday instead of studying, dammit! At least MW2 didn’t have this kind of fault =p

    Too fun.

  9. ViperX2 says:

So when will these be released? When is the in game store going to work?

  10. SPD55 says:

Hopefully they get the ingame Store fixed for PS3 users since the VIP code I entered I have not been able to enter the store…

  11. Caphead says:

@ SPD55 the reason why it doesn’t work is because there in no DLC yet. the store on the game links you directly to the ps store. March 30th is the date as stated above.

  12. ViperX2 says:

@Caphead – Thanks, I scanned the article looking for a date but didn’t see one.
