It wasn’t that long ago that Insomniac Games, the independent developer responsible for creating critically acclaimed franchises such as Spyro The Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, and the more recent Resistance series, expressed their intent on staying with Sony as an exclusive third party developer. However, whispers out of GDC seem to imply the contrary.
There’s not much to go on here, but IGN claims to have spoken with an anonymous, yet very reliable source who claims Insomniac is creating cross-platform titles for both the PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. When contacted by IGN, Ted Price, president of Insomniac Games, said only;
“[Insomniac] does not comment on rumors and speculation.”
Considering Insomniac’s past successful franchises have been PS3 exclusives, as well as that billboard for Resistance 3 we saw a while back, we can’t help but assume an entirely new multiplatform IP is the works should this rumor turn out to be true.
Since nothing has been confirmed and details are essentially non-existent, we’ll be sure to update you as soon as anything comes to light.
[UPDATE] Making good on our promise to keep you posted, we bring you a recent forum post from NeoGAF made by none other than Insomniac Games’ Community Relations Manager, James Stevenson:
Well guys, Ted has spoken so you have that.
But c’mon, didn’t we just deal with this rumor like two months ago? And a few months before that? And so on?
And that’s that. Move along, people. Show’s over, nothing to see here.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Oh, well. I guess they can spread the love if they want to.
Don’t want to see this happen, but can’t blame them if they do. That’s alot more money for them, that they could use to fund Resistance 4 of course
As long as I get my Resistance 3 and they don’t forget about their PS3 fanbase, I don’t care.
Pull out your checkbook Sony.
First of all claass21 – Sony doesn’t use their checkbooks as a way to try to buy superiority like Microsoft does…
That said, I don’t think we will be losing any exclusive IPs to multi-platform. I would think this would be a new IP. Besides this could only help Sony because if developers keep using the PS3 as the lead platform, which Insomniac definitely would, then it will lead to more multiple disc games like Final Fantasy for the 360 and further showing the PS3′s superiority.
This would be terribly disappointing.
Sony, buy the studio. lol
I agree with Darth_Xehanort… Buy them! lol..
@giese095 – The old Sony? Sure. But they just went out and bought Media Molecule recently. It wouldn’t shock me if they bought Insomniac, and it wouldn’t shock me if they didn’t either way, Sony has the rights to Resistance and Ratchet and Clank so the 360 won’t see those any time soon.
This is only a let down bc xbox gets another sony studio. But it is not that bad, because they have not made any good games recently. Resistance 2 sucked, a ton.
My post was directed at buying the studio, which Sony does do…ex. Media Molecule less than two weeks ago.
I can’t for Insomniac Games and Sony debunking this a the lie it is. Also Insomniac Games has multi-year contract. Plus yeah every game they made is %100 own by Sony. All the money too without Sony they are basically nothing no money they even admitted to it. This is just a bad RUMOR.
If the new studio is working on a new IP to be multi-plat then that could be a possibility but at least we know there’s not much chance of Ratchet & Resistance going multi-plat which is a good thing.
Insomniac make awesome games and if they feel for business reasons they need to make some multi plat games then I am ok with that. Of course I’d be better if Sony decided to put an offer in to buy the studio and bring em into the first party love-shack that is SCE World Wide Studios.
Either way I’m pretty sure we’ll keep on having awesome Insomniac games on PS3.

Lend me some of those drugs…
Since they have a long standing developer to publisher relationship with Sony it can be assumed Sony didnt box them in too much, nor force too many changes to what they do and how the do it. I just hope this remains true as they seek to publish on other platforms (yes im looking at you M$ and $E) otherwise I wish them the best if this is true.
@ Ivan_ PSP – I have seen your posts on other sites, please try to keep your posts here coherent, which they often arent, without too much fanboyism, thanks.
