PlayStation Move Could Be Limited to Foursome

03/13/2010 Written by Jonathan Leack

Sony unveiled the full capabilities of its upcoming motion controller, titled PlayStation Move, only a few days ago at GDC. The latest information about this impressive device shows that the controller also supports an optional side-controller called the “sub-controller.” While response has been largely positive, there are some new details regarding the sub-controller that may prove to be limiting in the future.

During a recent EuroGamer interview with Justin Cooney from SCEA, Cooney revealed that when using the PlayStation Move sub-controllers, only two sets of controllers can be used with the PlayStation 3 at any single time. Cooney stated the following:

“There’s a cap of four controllers total… That includes the nunchuck-style wireless offhand controllers.”

What this means is that most co-op and offline multi-player games will either be restricted to two players, or will be limited to only the main Move controller. While disappointing, there’s a chance that this can be remedied before launch since Sony does have several months until the official release in Fall 2010.

not a big deal… just pass around the controller

Two players is enough for me. But I was wondering, in Motion Fighter does the Eye track your feet movement? If not than how do you move your fighter? I mean you are holding two Moves, so you probably can’t hold a sub controller with them.

  3. godsman says:

That’s cause the machine only connects to 7 bluetooth device at a time.

  4. 2 people using Move/subcontroller at a time is plenty. You gotta be in front of the TV in PSEye view and moving around to use it. 3 or more people would just be getting in each other’s way.

Dammit. I was looking forward to a more extensive orgy.
    Damn you, Playstation!

  6. Crueltea says:

But as long as the Move has a “dualshock” vibrating feature, I think we’ll be ok.

I don’t think this is a problem at all…if it is a split-screen game, splitting it into more than 2 sections can make things WAY too small even if you have a giant TV. I have a 50 inch TV and I still find it hard sometimes to split the screen in 2 and be able to see everything you need to while playing. I assume this is a limitation of the PS Eye to be able to track more than 2 Move controllers. Expecting it to be able to track up to 4 controllers and keep 1:1 movement I feel is asking too much.

This isn’t new; didn’t they say this back at E3 last year?

  9. Timewarp says:

what with all the sex referances? I thought I was playing a video game not planning a foursome. Not that bad anyone I don’t normally play on my PS3 with anyone else anyway.

  10. This isnt a big problem, i cant imagine 4 people around the tv , all jumping around and causing some destruction

  11. wtGp says:

this is offline so who cares but if this was online it would be another story

  12. :) Playstation Move Sub-controller, or just PMS for short :)

Seriously, though, it’s not a big deal really… as others have already stated: just pass the one controller around.

  13. Max Murray says:

thats fine, can you imagine purchasing 7 freaking controllers and 7 subs?

  14. Natiej85 says:

Dual Shock inside of a controller that tracks one to one just doesn’t seem beneficial.

  15. 2-4 controllers is more than enough for me.

how much… umm.. .living room space do people think they’d have for 4-7 players with a motion controller? and how much money are they REALLY planning on spending for 7 of those things?

There are sitll laws in Arizona that say you cna’t have more than 3 dildos in a house… I hope for their sakes they don’t get caught. :P
