With a sleek interface and numerous capabilities, along with a library of blockbuster releases, Sony‘s handheld is considered by many to be one of the best gadgets currently available in the market. However, despite the PSP’s capabilities and potential, Codemasters VP Gavin Chesire is not full of praise for the sleek device.
In the latest issue of Edge, he criticized the PSP, calling it a “bollocking useless waste of space:”
Well, speaking as a person who bought a PSP, the problem was that I always thought – because it was a better screen than iPod’s – that I’d be doing more with it. But it was such a bollocking useless waste of space; just getting stuff on it was ridiculous.
That was its downfall. Relatively speaking, [Codemasters] didn’t do too badly on F1 PSP. But regarding the future, I think they’ve got – well… no.
Ironically, he seems to love the PSP Go:
PSPgo’s a lovely device. [It's]really smart – but our senior VP bought one the day it came out and has a great story, because he ended up on some customer support line just trying to do basic stuff. He had to re-download his software, do an immediate firmware update, and that’s your user experience.
Sony just hasn’t got it right. Stuff like that will make people leave it alone.
He hates the PSP, loves the PSP Go, and seems to be alluding to the fact that the PSP Go is not user friendly since their senior VP was on a customer support line because he can’t read a manual.
Codemasters?
They can develop games but have that much trouble putting stuff on a PSP?
And a PSPGo?
Gah these guys are idiots XD
How is plugging in a USB cable and copy/pasting hard?
I didn’t know iTunes made people so stupid, I honestly preferred not having to install something just to add anything.
he look like idiots LOL
I use my PSP every single week… though mostly as an RSS podcast streamer.
To be fair, though getting stuff on a PSP is easy if you just plug it in, using any kind of Sony software to “help” is a shortcut to frustration and madness.
What is this dude on about lol???? I’v had my psp since release and its a joy…. If he thinks its hard to put stuff on it he must be a total idiot! Saying that i bought FUEL and i’d say that was a ‘bollocking useless waste of space’
codemasters pffFFT

If you senior VP can’t do basic stuff, which I figure might be like putting video/music on, why is he still employed? What next, he can’t figure out how to turn on a PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii?
I got my PSP Go recently, and getting stuff on it without a PC or PS3 is a nightmare. I had to do a firmware update before I could get to the PSN Store, now I could download the update (6.20 firmware)to the PSP but the battery had to be FULL to install it, Even plugged in this wasn’t good enough. I bought Prince of Persia: Revelations for the PSP Go off the PSN, My PS3 was out for repair, and I run XP 64 which the PSP software hates. sooo it took 2.5 hours to download the game(1.6 gig) and 45 mins to install it. Now I had bought GoW: CoO on the PSN using my PS3, it was a 30 min download(1.3 gig) and 45 seconds to install it. I can see WHY people would have issues with this.
BUT I love my PSP Go, as soon as I leave the house, in the case and around my shoulder it goes!
he sounds like his diaper was full, what an idiot.
Codemasters is a bollocking useless waste of space
VP Gavin Chesire is a bollocking useless waste of space.
Codemasters… RF Online, If I’m correct? Explains a lot…….
I can care less i won’t buy any psp model until they release one with 2 analogs and have games that support trophies and better online service similar to the psn.
I say the same thing about codemasters ironicly enough.
The only titles I honestly have enjoyed from them are the two Overlords. Other than that they haven’t shown me anything good. I mean come on remember the Damnation fiasco?
Let me get this right, they DESIGN games, but they can’t navigate a freakin PSPgo. I really can’t begin to wrap my head around this.

doesnt sound like the he likes the go too much, more like sarcasm.
If unless you are a first party company bashing on the hardware really destroys your proffesionalism and credibility. Look at Valve for example, and Activision, they are the least respected companies.
