PlayStation Portable Dominates in Japan

03/21/2010 Written by Dan Massi

The PlayStation Portable is arguable one of the most powerful portable game devices available today. Although the PSP is last place when compared to the popularity of other handhelds, Sony‘s portable has been dominating recently. This is most apparent in the land of the rising sun, where the PSP outsold every other console last week.

Last week in Japan, the PSP moved 39,125 units, managing to outsell the Nintendo Wii, and its bigger brother, the PlayStation 3. The PSP also outsold it’s main competitor, the Nintendo DS, outselling all three versions of the handheld (DSi, DSi LL, and DS Lite).

  1. Sony PlayStation Portable – 39,125
  2. Nintendo Wii – 31,460
  3. Sony PlayStation 3 – 26,481
  4. Nintendo DSi LL – 21,604
  5. Nintendo DSi – 13,581
  6. Nintendo DS Lite – 3,920
  7. Microsoft Xbox 360 – 2,668
  8. Sony PlayStation 2 – 1,825
  9. Sony PSP go – 1,191
