Today is the 5-year anniversary of the PSP’s release. The PSP has redefined what’s expected from a gaming handheld system with its many features and multimedia capabilities. However, Sony says “the best is yet to come”.
Peter Dille, SCEA’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, talks about the PSP’s success as well as the future of the device:
“Today, the PSP system is a well-established handheld platform that continuously redefines portable entertainment with quality that’s unparalleled. As PSP celebrates its fifth anniversary, the best is yet to come. We’re very excited about the vibrant 2010 lineup and are committed to continuing to offer entertainment experiences and immersive gameplay only possible on the PlayStation platform.”
Even though the PSP is showing its age, we expect Sony to continue to support their first foray into the handheld market for years to come. That being said, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a new PSP announced at E3 or at another trade show later in the year.
How about coming out with some new software for the PSP…as opposed to just coming out with a new model..I mean it’s 5 years old…and we have what? I’ve actually lost count of all the models…It’s almost comical at this point. And you would think to generate buzz…that they would at least give you something to look forward too right? I mean if I had brought you nothing the past 5 years and said the best is yet to come…you would think i’m an idiot too right?
i’m just bein’ honest.
The Best is Yet to Come??
MGS 1 remake? how sneaky!
MGS Peace Walker, Parasite Eve The 3rd Birthday, Kingdom Hearts BBS, & Monster Hunter 3 are going to be awesome. l’m glad they’re coming this year or l would go crazy in anticipation
Were they playing some Frank Sinatra when they talked about this? I find that all the PSP does is annoy me when games are released as part of a series thats on the PS3 or PS2, and since I don’t own one I’ll never know what happened in that part of the story line (Resistance, Assasin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, God of War, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, MGS: PW) without just looking it up and reading about it,,, which is kinda lame. I realize they do this to boost sales for the system, but its just annoying.
what they really mean is this is a system for monster hunter and yet more monster hunter titles are the best yet to come, a new psp would be cool too as long as i gets me monster hunter.
HAH @ Trukadir. Good thinkin
god, i wish!
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep alone makes my PSP more loved than even my PS3.
“Showing it’s age”? Really? I don’t think so. Games on the PSP look much better than on the DS. It still has a lot of life in it.
The PSP isn’t showing its age at all. If all the pirates out there would chill out maybe Sony would be doing more for the system. I can maybe understand hacking the system to get more out of the hardware for themes and the such, but using it for strictly for copying games, playing them, and then posting them online for free?! Yet they believe they still have the right to complain about Sony not doing enough for the console. I hate stupid people. Bring on the new stuff Sony, I’m sure I’m not the only fan that actually pays money for your products and games for them. Oh this post is not referring to anyone particular (aside from pirates screwing us true gamers over), I’m just stating my point of view on the subject.
