God of War: Atlantis Could be in Kratos’ Future
Now that God of War III has been unleashed upon the masses, die-hard fans have been wringing every last red orb out of the game. Enthusiasts of the series are curious about where things go from here. Some have even made bold claims of hidden messages within some of the original God of War’s unlockable videos suggesting a new God of War game may feature a hero suited more for modern warfare rather than ancient savagery. However, Atlantis has been an area of interest for the team at Sony Santa Monica for some time now.
Often as a game is starting to take shape characters, bosses, events, and even whole levels will find their way to the cutting room floor. The original God of War was supposed to feature the Icarus Wings. There wasn’t time available to polish the feature as well as the rest of the product, so we had to wait for God of War II. God of War II was supposed to feature the multifaceted Chimera, but the PS2 just wasn’t a powerful enough platform to pull off the complex animations and character AI. There have been countless cut assets throughout the series, but one area in particular really stuck out in my mind after playing God of War III for a third time.
Next to Mount Olympus, Atlantis is probably one of the most recognizable places of legendary ancient Greece. The mythical lost city has long inspired the imaginations of authors, songwriters, artists, etc. Those familiar with the God of War series may recall the God of War II bonus materials including a video about the levels that did not make the retail release. One such level was Atlantis, and as you can see in the video below, while the level was far from prime time, it had certainly left the infancy of a concept.
Atlantis was going to be an entire world in the game [God of War II] and we lost that one too unfortunately, maybe it will come back some other day.

Here is some additional concept art from the lead artist, Cecil Kim. As you can see the ambition for this area is quite high and it’s interesting that Stig referred to this as a world and not a level, as the area does appear to be quite massive.
So what does this all have to do with God of War III? During the boss fight with Poseidon, he talks some godly trash, telling Kratos that he is bound to failure and in general praising the power of the gods. At a certain point in the battle with Poseidon, he makes direct mention of Atlantis in a manner that suggests that Poseidon and Kratos have some history there. While this may sound like a stretch, it is not uncommon for the series to foreshadow itself in such a manner.
The recently revealed Spartans Stand Tall teaser site could even play into this. This was discovered by receiving the Platinum Trophy for God of War III. Obviously this site is proof positive that Sony Santa Monica isn’t quite done with Kratos yet. A week later the site is now pouring rain with the “timer” filled about half-way. This would be an awful lot of trouble to go through just for some “alternate ending” or costume related content. God of War: Chains of Olympus was teased very much in the same manner.
Additionally, what appears to be the Greek letter Lambda could very well be a stylized A. We will have to wait to see what the rain reveals.

sorry but god of war 3 crappist game i ever played, crap gameplay, crap story mode and grafic is ok, also full of some bugs some gamers had exericence cant continue through gameplay. God of war 3 should be on xbox360 because such a crap game and should fit with crap xbox360 aswell, but again it just my opioin

I’m going with a PSP game here. The second comic book of the series God of War is supposed to get talks about how Kratos lead the legions of his Spartan army against the creatures of Atlantis/Poseidon. There is alot of room for the story to grow.
Unfortunately, PS3vsXbox360 has showcased the type of opinion that runs rampant on this site.
Most members act as if Sony is directly feeding dollar bills into their assholes as they log onto PSN everyday. As bad as the 10 year olds on Live are, they can’t hold a candle to some of the idiots that make up ‘Sony Fanboy-dom.’
Oh well. Still love the site. As for the topic, I would much rather see a NEW God of War series using a different mythology.
Egyptian, African, Norse, etc.

Maybe you should invest in an education instead of playing games. Your grammar and spelling need some work but then that is just my opinion.
I played the Demo and the graphics were pretty good but because I am not into heavy button mashing required by the game-play it is not a game I could play for a long time.

I don’t think they will move out of Greek mythology Nosferatu, I just don’t see it. I think they will stay within Greek mythology and just move on to a different character with his own story. It might have something to do with the mess the Kratos leaves at the end of the GOW III.
I really don’t understand the way PS3vsXBOX360′s brain works…most of the time he is on here being a complete Sony fanboy saying everything 360 is trash, then he comes on here and bashes GOWIII. “grafic is ok,” really?? First of all I hope you never made it out of the 3rd grade, second I’m pretty sure your mommy wouldn’t let you play the game or something because there is no way you actually saw this game in action and just thought it looked “ok.” “Crap gameplay” too?? I guess you didn’t like any of the other God of War games either since they all used the same style of gameplay. I’m pretty sure that shouldn’t even be considered an opinion because there is no way any part of what he said is a matter of opinion, it is all just blatant lies.
I think if they changed to a different mythology, they would need to have a new character, which also means a new IP, cause it just doesn’t seem right to have God of war as the title and not have Kratos as main character.
Notice that in the end of GOW1 in the last scene it showed more modern things like planes and men with guns, so I won’t be surprised if they made something about modern time that deals with the series.
Atlantis sound really cool. But I am also a God of War addict and love each game.

I think your right on the greek mythology but does it matter if someone hates this game? I liked it but at the end of the day all PS3vsXBOX360 said was he’s opinion and yeah to me and you it may seem stupid to hate a game like God of war 3 but it’s just a game.

Ahem, anyways, this is an interesting theory. I go back to when it was stated that they originally had more scenes with fighting titans that got cut from the 3rd game because it was simply too much content to work with. I think we’ll see that first – but all we can do is wait and see.

I’m a huge god of war fan and I have to agree gow 3′s story fuckin sucks which ruined the game for me personally. yeah the graphics and combat are great but the corny and inconsistent story was total garbage. maybe they will do better with atlantis

LOL, it’s always a big laugh for me reading some comments, but I’d better not, hoping not to come upon spoilers of all these games i don’t have time to play.
OK, as for Sir Senior Kratos, i would love to see some more in some new adventures, but i prefer to see a great franchise end than prolonged & later on get corrupted to some point where we regret it.
I think I said in a former post (about a weird & improbable remake of GOW) where they could take it into the future, where some would go on the paths of the mighty Kratos.
with recent stories & minor spoilers here & there, i think there’s room for a lot of things, Atlantis being part of the Greek Mythology, could be interesting, whether it be Kratos himself or some of his surroundings that now takes the lead role.
Hercules, being another son of Zeus & therefore a half-bro of Kratos is a nice idea (i haven’t’ played GOW3 yet, still don’t have it delivered, so excuse me for not knowing what’s his role & what happened to him & i don’t want to know now … let me discover, LOL!)
Now, my ideal would be a mix of all these or a new trilogy based on these. Well that’s another story. Last but not least, i apologize for any mistakes (grammatical or whatever) for my native language is Creole (Mauritian) & the other language i speak in daily life is French, yet English is our official language, so i can mix things up or literally translate some sentences off my mind.

I would like to learn more about other mythologies, but as someone commented, it doesn’t seem like it would be all the interesting and captivating.
What would keep the God of War franchise fresh is how they approach the QTE, making it defensive instead of offensive. press “X” to stay alive, instead of press “X” to kill.

Crappist opinion I say.
The ending for God of War 3 was just terrible felt like a cliff hanger. The graphics and combat were the only good thing but the story wasn’t that good as the previous two games.

this is just my opinion, but i think ur opinion SUCKS! I bet uve never played God of War 3, it is a brutally aesome game! theres no way this can be the crappiest game uve playyed, scored 9/10 every where, the graphics a kick-ass and it would take probably 5 disks to fit the whole game onto an xbox 360. the storyline is one of the best ive seen and really develops the characters.
and it is overall an awesome game!
