THQ has recently revealed some information about the upcoming Red Faction 4 and is looking to bring insane upgrades to the Red Faction franchise. In an interview with CVG, VP of Core Games, Danny Bilson confirmed that the 4th installment of Red Faction will be releasing this year and that “it’s different from the last one but similar.”
“It’s sort of a combo of the old one and the new one, so it’s… I don’t want my marketing guy to be pissed at me for giving away too much, but it goes back underground and it’s really cool.”
He also commented on Red Faction: Guerrilla which was a hit game amongst critics but never achieved very high sales.
“that that game has been played by a lot more people than the amount we sold.
“The things that I think were the problem with Guerilla were not the gamplay but the IP. Being in a dusty environment for a long period of time could get a little monotonous. It’s almost simple things like that.”
He went on to add,
“I think the story [in Red Faction 4] is way more intense this time and I think the story was way secondary to the gameplay last time. It’s more integrated this time and it’s a cooler story, it’s cooler environments and there are elements in it that have never been in a Red Faction before as far as enemies go and… ahh (laughs).”
Looks for more updates on this game in the coming months, especially with E3 right around the corner.

Go back to the days of RF2 that game is amazing I still play it.
RF2 was really amazing. Guerilla is also pretty cool (I got my copy free with the Darksiders thing), but I really want RF to go back into the FPS genre. I never was a huge 3PS fan…
the destruction was awesome in Red Faction Guerilla but the story was lacking and I sold it as soon as I finished one play through. I would love the new one to have even better destruction but a much better and more involved story.
I do remember playing the second one for the PS2, it was only once though, but it was fun
I played both RF2 and RF3 and I preferred RF3 to be honest I can’t say I got into the 2nd game that much. I hope they continue the idea of the third game with FPS though include an option to change the gameplay to first person,
Not sure how it would work but if they tweaked it then it could mean people who enjoyed the first two games or guerrila can enjoy the 4th game just as much though the envioment needs to change, a good idea would be to bring the destruction of the 3rd game to earth.
Taking on the Earth Defence Force on their own grounds (Ironicly the EDF is an fuel company in britain lol ^_^). I hope they keep it as a third person shooter because there’s way too many FPS on the market with MW2, BFBC2 and Medal of honour all out this year.
I played the Guerilla demo and I really liked it, but I just never got around to buying it. Yet. I’m looking forward to the next one, should be very cool.
I was a strong advocate for Red Faction, but have been severly tarnished by being ripped off for a tiny little trophy which requires a monumental time investment. So, if anyone knows of a way to unstick my side mission counter at 92, even though I did all the side missions and went back to an old game save with 69 side missions and tried again.with the same results.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
RFG was great. It needs a better story, and more interesting environments. Thats… pretty much it. I should really go play that again.
@jockhotty – I had a similar issue… I would complete a mission, only to have the same icon show up in the same place with the same mission, as if I never completed it. I have no idea what causes this, but kinda gave up on the trophies, since there is such a ridiculous number of collectibles.
the game was to small scale i would like entire cities to blow up but i fear that i have to wait for next gen consoles to do that.
I think we may see that now actually. Core Games seem to want to up the choas we saw in guerrila and that sounds awesome, this is a day one purchase for me already as long as they keep it the same as the third game.
I love blowing up buildings. EPIC! Espcially taking down the momument bridge, it didn’t go down easy but it was cool when you finnaly knocked it down to the ground.
