DICE Won’t Ever Charge For Maps For Bad Company 2

04/01/2010 Written by Matt Baker

Mostly map packs have comprised the DLC for the Modern Warfare series, and Modern Warfare 2 continued the trend with its XBL-for-now map pack. However, DICE doesn’t agree with charging their players for ridiculously overpriced map packs, and has issued a statement which will satisfy all Bad Company 2 owners.

After the news of Modern Warfare 2 receiving a rather expensive map pack, DICE has announced they will not be charging for any of their map packs. Ever. Battlefield: Bad Company 2‘s senior producer, Patrick Bach stated:

We don’t ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together. We’re owned by EA but we’re still very much DICE.

That’s it DICE, just give us free map packs–hell, even reasonably-priced ones–and we’ll all stick to Bad Company 2, we promise.

Tell me this isn’t an April Fools joke… please!

  2. claass21 says:

April Fools! Now give us all your money! haha

  3. victorinox says:

so that 15 usd for VIP if you dont buy new is what exactly then?

  4. @victorinox – good point. I almost forgot that I’ll be VIP for buying this new from EA – but yeah, what if you’re not? Then do you pay a one time VIP fee, or shell out cash for the individual maps? I’m assuming that this statement is saying VIPs will never be charged, and his statement above may have been out of context and thus didn’t indicate he was referring to VIPs specifically?

  5. victorinox says:

the map packs are all included as VIP so far, and the total store items are, costume pack’s (dr. pepper promo so odds are youll pay for them i mean if VIP’s get them for free why am i drinking dr. pepper?) map pack 1, and soon map pack 2… Squad rush which is a preorder item US ONLY EU got it for free on the disc implying that everyone will naturally get this mode *if not thats BS* that means VIP = 2 map packs atm. as i said, VIP costs 15 usd if you dont buy new… even now people are trading/selling bfbc 2 with used codes *i sold mine* so that means some people are paying for the VIP… which as of new means Map Packs

    hello …

nice idea, as long as not April fool’s joke indeed! Yet i’m against paying ‘maps’ but would accept for full levels with added story & items.

    cheers!

  7. soo… squad rush is something I won’t have with my VIP thing since I didn’t pre-order? man, this is kinda confusing.

  8. Xael says:

lol sure DICE may be still DICE, but there’s no stopping EA and their money making schemes!

victorino made it confusing, it isn’t at all. You get maps for free if you are vip, paying to be vip is at this point about the same value as the first map pack for mw2 but you are guaranteed maps in the future. Rest of NA gets squad rush mode 30 days after release, they didn’t imply it they flat out announced it. also I like how they let everyone know they sold bad company 2, like its gonna change peoples minds lol

  13. Caphead says:

@ bigwhoop you are VIP if you buy a NEW game from the start, no pre order needed! this is only for those that only buy a used game.

Hopefully they are actually new maps coming out instead of making some conquest maps into rush or rush maps into conquest like map pack 2.

  16. All your map are belong to us! Woo!

  17. Timewarp says:

what a dumb move. Free maps? So their prepared to lose money in order to make friends with the gamers and look better then Activision/Infinity ward? Yep a dumb move, shouldn’t DICE just be making sure the maps aren’t overcharged.

That would make more sense but free is just going to be losing them a lot of money they could have made, why did EA Games even except this? They only exsist to make money and yes I know we don’t want to hear it but it’s true, companies only exsist to make money. THEY ALL DO.

Cool for us but it’s a shame for DICE because they could have charged and people would have still paid for them.
