The PlayStation Portable 2 has long been rumored for what seems like eons now. PSP2 has been the subject of speculation, artists renditions, forum battles, but never the subject of a Sony press release. We all know Sony is hard at work developing the next generation PlayStation Portable. While it’s not ready for official unveiling, recent discoveries indicate that may happen sooner then you think.
For the moment it is unclear if the PSP2 is being designed as a mobile phone or will just be a portable game machine. What we do know is a couple of LinkedIn profiles clearly list the PSP2 in their experience and summaries. Dominic Mason is the Director at AtomFire Productions, a game development house located in Brighton, United Kingdom. They specialize in mobile games, mobile apps, web apps and flash games. Both his summary and experience indicate the following:
AtomFire Productions undertakes games and interactive entertainment projects for high-end web, DS and DSi, Wii, PSP, PSP2, PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, WiiWare, iPhone and Windows.
Additionally, Hilke Muslim, Coordinator at “Frumusete pe muchie de cutit”, ProTV located in Romania, interestingly enough lists the following information in her summary:
casting assistant: Sony PSP2
This could be casting for commercials, advertisements or games.
This is not an official statement the PSP2 is nearing it’s debut, but this certainly is evidence that the PSP2 is somewhere in the later stages of development. If games are being developed and people are being casted that would likely mean the platform is complete. Either way these profiles are likely to be updated after publishing.
Stay tuned with PlayStation LifeStyle as more information unfolds.
Thanks for the tip Mr. Tan!
[UPDATE] Another reference to the PSP2 has been noted and E3 is rumored to be the “battlefront.” According to PS3Blog, Shane Bettenhausen of the 4 guys 1 Up Podcast seems to have some insider info and thinks the portable console will make it’s debut at E3.
“I think the big story of E3 is DS 2 and PSP 2. I’m really excited to see that,” he further commented that the”DS and PSP both existed in completely different sides [...] if those two put out similar products at the same time, it really evens the playing field.”
[UPDATE 2] TechRadar reports that Colin Sebastian Capital analyst for Lazard is forecasting in the next coming months Sony will announce the next gen PSP with E3 obviously being the best opportunity.
“While 3D games remain on the drawing board and not yet on store shelves, the emergence of new 3D game platforms could breathe more life into the hardware market”
[UPDATE 3] Connected Consoles has since been in touch with Dominic Mason of AtomFire. He has since updated his profile and provided the following statement:
“Sadly, it’s an old listing from before PSPGo was called that. I apologise to partners, colleagues and friends at Sony for any misrepresentation.”
hello …
i was looking forward to get a PSP, but having not much time for gaming i delayed it, now i guess i shall wait for the PSP2 or PSP5 who knows, but with SONY’s recent ‘finding’ or removing my otherOS & complicating my life so that i need to find an external HDD to backup my 130Gb+ of DATA, i’ll be careful in the future for my purchase … bad MOVE SONY, really bad MOVE.
cheers!
The first set of psps were badass i mean with all of the emulators it’s sweet then the psp go came out and wasn’t all that..
Hopefully the psp2 gets announced @ E3 and has 2 analog sticks.. with trophy support and better online support.
I’m still wishing for a PSP that has a phone feature. I’d rather be using a PSP Phone than an iPhone. Can’t game without a real D-pad and buttons. Touch + Motion isn’t gaming.
Wasn’t there some mention of some new things happening at E-3 and not all software?
I have a psp and to be honest I dont want to play it because i dont enjoy it.. I didnt get the pspgo because sony didnt add the features that I wanted.. Im hoping for some information during e3
As soon as they add a second analog stick, I’ll put it on my shopping list. As long as the price stays around $170.
PSP2 will need a second analog to get any kind of hype. That above all things will make or break the system…what’s a great game without smooth controls….not THAT great of a game- i.e. RE5 imo. So if you take out the potential for solid controls and leave the consumer with the same semi-awkward layout…there’s not going to be much support for the system.
lol if the psp2 looked like that pic id get it
@Richard Allen
I’m aware when i had my psp i let my buddy from work give me emulators for the snes and other platforms i always bought my actual psp games which wasn’t that much.. since theres really not that many good games for psp.
I also think the PSP GO is bad for sony also cause not everyone has internet to download games so i guess people with that have a PSP GO and don’t have internet service has to go drive around until they find an area with a hotspot so they can download a game?
For me i rather have my games on UMD not a big fan of downloading things through PSN since it takes me quite a while with average internet speed.
im glad i read this article. i was gonna go out and buy a PSP, but now that ive read this i think i might wait off until E3.
plus a psp2 would be awesome, especially if it had 2 analog sticks, but taking on how much the psp go was its probably gonna be really expensive. but if it had backwards compatible, id but it in a flash
don’t understand why anyone would want the PSP to also be a phone. Just one more function that dilutes the resources and caters to an niche group. If u want to talk on the phone, there are plenty of dedicated com devices out there that do a much better job. Give me a PSP 2 w/ more gaming muscle, dual analogs, & (hopefully) backward compatibility & I’ll b happy
