Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 undoubtedly tapped deeply into the PlayStation 3′s capabilities to showcase its next-gen like visuals and story telling. Crysis 2 is promising to raise that bar even further with its exceptionally stunning CryEngine 3. The shooter’s lead writer recently shared some pretty outspoken opinions about two of Sony’s prized franchises.

Halo is Bogus Man!
Sci-fi novelist Richard Morgan, who is Crytek’s lead writer for Crysis 2, has said that the second installment in the Crysis series surpasses the PlayStation 3 exclusive Killzone 2 based on Crysis 2′s alpha stage.
As the lead writer of Crysis 2, they have numerous times showed me Crysis 2. This way i can visualise the scenes and scripts for the story events. I can tell you now What I have seen of Crysis 2 in Alpha Stages, Surpasses Killzone 2.
A bold statement, to say the least. But with Crytek’s powerful CryEngine 3, this statement from Morgan could become a reality once Crysis 2 is released. Morgan also had praise for Uncharted 2 and told NowGamer that Uncharted 2 sets a great example of what storytelling should be like.
There is absolutely no reason why you can’t weld a really good narrative to a really cool shooting game. Uncharted 2 is the perfect example,” he told us “it’s tongue-in-cheek, but it’s a compelling story and it’s a very straight-forward gameplay dynamic. Crysis 2, fine, it is fundamentally about firefights – about shooting stuff – but so was BioShock. The whole point about BioShock was the texture that made it.
The sci-fi novelist also says that characters are crucial to a game’s story:
You’re not going to have like in, say, Arkham Asylum, ‘The Joker’,” he told us, “and the stupid girl with the big tits. That’s ****ing bullshit, man … that’s comic book. What we’ll do is that we’ll create characters where you generally feel that there’s a weight and a gravitas, a depth to them. You can identify, you can actually see where they’re coming from.
David Jaffe 2.0 anyone? Crysis 2 will be set in New York and slated for a fall release.
Check out the recent CryEngine 3 tech demo, which showcases Crysis 2 in action.

I have to agree with you on that point, PSLS. He does sound like Jaffe 2.0. E3 can’t come soon enough!
Sorry Crytek, you sold out the franchise and created not just console versions, but specifically gimped the PC version of this IP, because consoles couldn’t handle it. No way in hell I’m getting this for PC or PS3. Crytek, burn in hell.
@Mornelithe – someone’s a little sour, eh? Can’t handle the fact that people trying to sell a product need to make money? hmmmm? awww…. poor you.
Frankly, the fact that they’re going with PS3 as the lead platform says a lot more than “we’re selling out”. They are well aware their game is known for graphics, and intend to improve upon that. Using the PS3, something that is designed for displaying high end video game graphics is a smart move – not only will they accomplish their goal, but also bring the game to a host of people who couldn’t afford the super duper high end computer required to play the original, nor cared to buy one just for one game. Blocking themselves into just the PC market in this day and age is just blocking themselves from making money from their efforts (i.e. stupid).
I don’t understand why people are so excited about a game made by people who have never worked with the PS3 before. I’m also not convinced the PS3 is the lead platform – has anyone from Crytek actually said that? Personally, I would tend to think that people who have made PS3 exclusives in the past would be more likely to make a great game than a developer who has never worked with it before, and is now coming out with a multi-platform title.
@jackC8 – I guess they didn’t technically say the exact words “PS3 is the lead platform”, but it was certainly heavily implied in the quote in this article…

sure sounds like PS3 is the lead,,, right? Also, while having never worked with the ps3 before may be a slight disadvantage, I don’t think its as bad as many devs made it out to be when PS3 first released. Most of those devs who bitched and moaned went to xbox and released crap anyways. A talented developer like crytek should certainly be able to figure out the nuances of coding for PS3 – so I’m not worried about any lack in quality.
Well most of there statements have been stating using alot of potential for ps3. Even though many PC gamers are pissed of console version, heck now PC gamers know how it feels when PS3 gamers have to share a game with 360 gamers. But here is the thing he stated before that there will be more piracy on PC and 360 but he never stated anything about PS3 since it never experience piracy that will affect a game developer’s sales. I’m say PS3 is the best im sure know sooner or later maybe(2015) there going to be a PS4 but PS3 is the best choice right now since it has the power and lack any chance of piracy.
I still don’t believe anything these guys say. JackC8 is right. Unless Guerrilla Games or Naughty Dog gave these guys a hand, how could they possibly produce a better looking game? The only reason those guys managed it was Sony’s support.
These guys just magically, and quickly, found trick to using the PS3 to its full potential? I do not believe it.
Richard Morgan can suck my balls. His opinion on comic books is completely retarded – especially considered most comics have stories that are 100 times better than the shit that can be found in a videogame.
Mass Effect 2? Go read Watchmen.
Go read Miracle Man.
Scalped.
Batman: Year One.
The Dark Knight Returns.
Daredevil: Born Again.
The Walking Dead.
I could go on forever and ever about that “comic book bullshit.” I GUARANTEE Crysis 2′s story will suck ass.
@BigWoopMagazine – well, not really
It’s the editor of Playstation Magazine, if he’s shown a game, chances are it’s the PS3 version. The fact that it looks great doesn’t really imply to me that it’s the lead platform. I hope it’s true of course, but I’ll just have to wait and see.
I don’t understand how some of you think…it’s completely impossible that Crytek could make an amazing looking game for the PS3? I guess that means it’s impossible for new developers to learn how to make a game for the PS3…Naughty Dog and Guerilla Games must have just known how to make games for the PS3 as soon as it released without having to learn anything I guess. Crytek built CryEngine 3 for consoles and they’ve been working on it forever, it’s not like they just came up with it overnight and suddenly knew how to develop for the PS3. It’s called research and development.
Man these guys are really looking to get a strong PS3 fanbase eh?
hello …
i like the fact this game is coming to PS3, i like the idea of having a new benchmark for GFX, i really love the effort put into making the PS3 version a great one, but i hate the different statements made by Crytek’s surrounding as if they are the best of developers around.
I admit that Crysis & Warhead were graphically excellent & the CryEngine3 seem far superior & amazing.
A game is not only great graphics & even if Mr Morgan think the story would be ‘better’ well we’ll see when it will be out.
I’m sure the PC version will be the best, but repeating myself, if i still don’t have my new PC (in fact waiting mostly for Diablo III to build 1 so can take centuries … LOL!), i shall get it on PS3 but it must be really impressive even if lower than PC.
If Crytek’s surrounding continue to show arrogance i may drop their game!
cheers!
Dissing a game as great as Arkham Asylum is a really bad idea. He’s making it seem like the game was nothing special.
I just want to see these fools top whats out for PS3 and when they fail on some level if not all. Them bitches are gonna be saying it’s because the hardware is just to complicated to program for. See that’s what happens when clowns try to be the best and fall short they say something wrong with this that and whatever. And I bet you the Xbox360 looks better cause it’s be some sort of PC port that just clicks and the PS3 version is gonna get the usual set(the bendover and get that boned buy lazy developer that doesn’t call us afterward).
Plus the pic at the beginning of this article looks like some straight up Killzone1, if want to compare some shit get a Killzone2 pic please, lol.
