PS3 Firmware 3.30 Revealed; Trophy Enhancements Abound
The latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3 is “coming soon” according to PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel and with it comes a slew of updates geared towards the trophy hunter in all of us. Details of the update have been released and it looks to be a pretty solid update for those looking to brag on their trophies a bit easier.
Even though the update is listed as “coming soon” you can expect the update to become available either tonight or tomorrow night, as that is the recent trend with these firmware announcements.
The update details are as follows:
- Trophy enhancements - Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

For the love of God can the next update please have voice over IP so we can chat in any game with one of our friends? XBOX has had this from day one and it drives me crazy this cannot be implemented.

they will add the feature later on probably with the psn premium subscription service.Before anyone rushes to say that this is lame.Consider Microsoft has this feature among others and you have to pay for a gold membership to use them.Sony will do the same with the exception that online gaming will be free to all users(unlike Microsoft) but features like cross in game chat and many others will be availiable only to those who subscribe for the premium service.
I quess at E3 they will announce it officially how the subscription for the premium service will be what features it will include and when it will be availiable (which it will be shortly after the announcement)
It would’ve been nice if this update also included a feature that allows you delete games with a 0% completion rate in the trophy list. There’s been a few games that I’ve rented or picked up on the PS Store that I didn’t like so I quit before attaining any trophies. That 0% drives me nuts!
