Sony Pleased With Bungie/Activision Deal; Talks of “Halo on Steroids”

04/29/2010 Written by Anthony Severino

After this morning’s groundbreaking announcement of a deal that gave Activision publishing rights to Bungie’s upcoming new IP, the gaming industry is in awe. Microsoft was quick to point out that their partnership with Bungie for Halo: Reach would remain unaffected. Now, it’s Sony’s turn to give their thoughts on this jaw-dropping announcement.

Via his personal Twitter account, Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media for Sony Computer Entertainment of America expressed his approval of this decade long deal, which grants Activision publishing rights to Bungie’s new IP:

Congrats to Bungie. Marrying their creative minds and incredible talent to the power of PS3 will be like giving PS3 fans Halo on steroids.

I myself, like many PlayStation fans, have never been a fan of the Halo series. However, there is no denying that Bungie is an infinitely talented development studio and we are very much looking forward to whatever they bring to the PlayStation 3, or its successor, seeing as though the deal is for a total of 10 years.

    Activision??? you’ve got to be shitting me. i wonder if Bungie is crapping themselves now due to recent events. i’d be.

    First Halo was awesome. It was something new and fresh for the consoles (remember that is started as the game that was going to change Macs…..until MS came along with money).
    Every other Halo game was a let down.

    I would like to see them get away from Halo for a change and do something new…too bad it’s with Asstivision.

  3. @sobrguy – I doubt their crapping themselves – they made the decision to go with Activision. They’re also remaining independently owned, so there shouldn’t be too many issues, hopefully. Lets hope they don’t end up regretting it though.

    I enjoyed Halo 1 and 2 for their campaigns, they were fun to play through. Was never a big fan of the multiplayer, which oddly is what they’re known for. I really have no desire to see Halo or anything even remotely similar to Halo on PS3, and am hoping for something totally new – which seems to be what they intend to do since this is for a new IP. I’m just curious if they’ll go for a whole new genre as well. I don’t really need to see any more shooters, theres enough out and quite a few more coming that have already been announced.

  4. please no halo like games. Something new.

    @neo881

    Sadly they’ve already said it won’t be marathon….this is what I was hoping for as well.

    I’m believing it’ll be a RPG…

  6. Robotron says:

    After reading the interview on eurogamer it looks like they’re building an MMO (new IP) and they won’t comment on the PS3. That’s probably why they chose Activision.

  7. Timewarp says:

    More Halo like games, First Person Shooters are bungie’s strong point.

  8. No interest in anything Halo like, but hopefully Bungie makes a sweet new IP.

  9. SPD55 says:

    Now you see the reason for the firing and pissing off of the IW Development group. Activision had this in their back pocket. I doulbt that I will be giving this IP from Bungie a first look. Maybe rent it for a day or DL the demo if there is one. But not giving Activision my funds to continue its predatory practices…

    @spd55

    wrong..

    the problem IW has been going on since before MW1…Bungie only recenly came into the picture 9 months ago.

  13. JackC8 says:

    Oh good grief, another online FPS. I was thinking that only getting 50 of them this year wasn’t enough, but now there will be 51!

  14. Natiej85 says:

    Please not Halo I don’t care if the really do put that bitch on Steroids that game is soo played OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Xael says:

    I think with that comment “Halo on Steroids” that pretty much confirming that it will be an FPS, because I’m sure by now the console manufacturers now what it is

  16. lemmy78 says:
