PSP Receives some Role-Play Lovin’ with Six JRPGs

05/15/2010 Written by The Great Thomasio

Have you often wondered why the PS3 lacks a great variety of JRPGs? Let me explain one reason for you. The PSP rules the roost in Japan, meaning most developers create JRPGs for it because A.) They’re almost guaranteed good sales and B.) They don’t have to spend double-digit millions to develop them. This is one reason why the PSP is so highly respected among JRPG fans worldwide because the ‘little system that could’ has more titles than you can count on your fingers and toes. Thanks to XSeed, a whopping 6 more JRPGs will be hitting  the PlayStation Portable this year and we have all the juicy details you need to know for massive amount of questing you can get yourself into.

Thanks to the partnership between XSeed and Nihon Falcom, 6 titles from the Y’s and The Legend of Heroes franchise will be arriving in America.

Ys I and II Chronicles is a remake of the first two original games, which was also released a Turbografx CD compilation the 90′s.

Next there’s Ys: The Oath of Felghana, which is a remake of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys.

Ys Seven is the newest entry in the series and it fully utilizes the power of the PSP. It promises 30+ hours of gameplay and a combat system which features a three-party member with real-time battles.

The three Legend of Heroes title will be from the three newest games in the series and have been known as the ‘Trails in the Sky’ trilogy in Japan.

XSeed Games president and founder Jun Iwasaki, was ecstatic about the partnership and giving US fans the chance to enjoy both series.

I couldn’t be more pleased to announce a partnership with a development studio as renown by gamers for consistently putting out quality titles as Falcom. Their titles have always been some of the most requested titles so it is going to be our pleasure to oblige the North American fans by delivering an amazing line up of in-depth and gripping RPGs.

The first title to be released due to this new relationship will be Ys Seven, which hits later this Summer. Once some solid release dates are given for the other 5 titles, we’ll make sure to let you know.

plus another final fantasy, just what the world needs Final Fantasy 15. It’ll come out before FF 14 and the upcoming FF 16, FF 17, FF 18, FF 19 and FF 20.

  3. perseus says:

Wow, you guys don’t like games from a culture and country that’s radically different from yours, with much different values than yours. Oh wow, that’s a shocker – I almost fell off my seat! You guys should get a MEDAL for being so unique – congrats on being just like expected and the rest of the bunch – honestly, what a shawcker!

  4. AoA says:

I love this. I love RPG’s. I could not be happier. Well, actually I could.
I bought Ys III a long time ago, I think, for the Sega Master System.
But I don’t think it was turn based.
Please PLEASE let my memory be faulty. I need turn based. Nothing is better than turn based.
And, hey if the guys look like girls, then man, oh, man, do the girls look like girls!
    YOWZZA!!

    … and I’d pre-order FF 15 through 20 today if I could.

  5. perseus says:

AoA: well said sir! A voice of reason, finally.

  6. hopefully they come with reasonable pricing, I don’t just have $20 to blow on just anything, which is also why I would like more of the games on PSN to have preview videos

  7. @Nosferatu….. maybe you should go play your RPGs where you can create yourself like animals, you keep bringing up femine main characters maybe you have an animal fetish, I think you aren’t secure with ur sexuality

  8. @kick in ur face

    Was that English?

  9. @Nosferatu….. how about this for english, while everyone else was trying to figure how they made Mister Ed talk you were looking at his lips for a different reason.

  10. number 1 – hates feminine male characters = h0m0phobe….. number 2 – like to insult people using ‘u must have a degree in Anal Loving’ .. ‘FFXIII takes the genre and r@pes it in the a$$’ = textbook closet case……. does anyone else see the pattern? Self-Hating G@y, like I said insecure about his sexuality

  11. Max Murray says:

    Truer words never spoken.

I’ve never heard of Y, so may be in my future.

I don’t anyone can understand what you’re trying to say, although I can guarantee they can tell how old you are.

Once you move out of your parents basement, things will be that much clearer.

  13. SolidCake_ says:

not bad, I thought the Mr Ed reference could have been fleshed out a bit more,
and the basement reference is a bit overused.
all in all I give it a 7 out of 10, well done.

  14. Natiej85 says:

More RPGs for the PSN can’t hurt and probably would to some degree help sales and give me something new to play.

That little whatever you wanna call it that was goin on up above me gets two thumbs down and pretty much all it did was waste space in the comment section.
