New Sackboy Won’t See All Previous LittleBigPlanet Levels

05/18/2010 Written by Jonathan Leack

Media Molecule announced a sequel to their award-winning LittleBigPlanet last Monday after days of rumors floated around the web. While the even more expanded ability to create levels was the highlight of the trailer (which can be seen below), one commonly overlooked feature is that the original LittleBigPlanet’s player-made levels will be transferred over to the new title.

Despite level transfer being advertised in LittleBigPlanet 2‘s recent trailer, Media Molecule has since clarified that not all levels will carry over to the new title. During an interview with EDGE magazine, a representative from Media Molecule stated the following:

“We may not get 100 per cent backwards compatibility…”

He went on to elaborate with the following:

“It’s a really hard job to QA it, with millions of levels to get through. So we might not succeed in all the exploits people have used.”

Although this is a disappointment, the mood seems to be positive so we should expect to see the biggest and most popular levels transfer over to the new title later this year. With such a grand undertaking, the backward compatibility is really only an added bonus to the amount of play value. At any rate, LittleBigPlanet 2 looks to be one of the biggest titles of 2010 and should make a strong addition to the Winter line-up for the PlayStation 3.

Thank god I’m glad my disaster of a LBP level isn’t making it through to the sequal.

  2. Well, to their credit, they’ve been saying this since they started talking about LBP2.

  3. CBas92 says:

LIke 60% of the levels are crap anyway so Im pleased.

  4. eddacosta says:

just let people QA them, if its bad or broken, we’ll delete them, just make the old lbp levels like wikipedia or something.

  5. nemo20000 says:

Going from “We can’t QA them all” to a headline of “Sackboy won’t see all previous levels” is a bit of a leap, poetic licence notwithstanding.

  6. Thats mildly disappointing, but understandable. I suppose I won’t really care to play the old levels anyway, when I buy LBP2 it’ll be for all the new features and new levels… so its okay. Plus, I didn’t make anything special, so I’m not worried about losing any of mine.

@nemo – how so? it seems to say the same thing to me.

  7. ThatBoyTim says:

Why would you want to import old levels? This is a whole new world…
